Tbh first ballot doesn't matter at all. Its a fake honor that only matters to the extent people keep track of it. Which historically they have not. The hall of fame has not been segregated by ballot. Getting into the Hall of Fame is getting into the Hall of Fame. Anyone except a top 5-10 player all time all positions has a shot at being left off the first year.

The exception I'd make is TO. But the anti TO voters weren't going to make him wait till 3rd ballot to send a message the anti TO voters didn't want to elect him at all and only did so because the pro TO voters got very angry.

But thats by the same people trying to make this stupid concept a thing. And its more of an idea than whether or not they actually get in 1st ballot.

HOF voters for better or worse do not induct the best 5 players on the ballot. They factor in stuff like how long players have waited and position balance. The HOF nor HOF voters recognize the first ballot HOFer concept.
