I hope I get to see a 2 sport pro athlete in my lifetime.

That running back for the Dolphins De' Von Archane was a 10.14 sprinter at Texas A&M

Tyreek Hll was a great JC Sprinter at 9.9w. Ran a 10.16 in HS.

Been tons of track cats in the NFL. At least 20 Olympians.

Bo was a two time Alabama state decathlon champion in high school, and never ran the 1500m, he already had it won.

Incredible athlete, amazing actually.

I highly recommend the book "The Courting of Marcus Dupree" by Willie Morris, more than just a football read.

When Dupree was in HS in Mississippi he lost the state 100 to Calvin Smith by a lean, Smith a tiny little guy, but.......future 9,.93 World Record holder.

Speaking of love, Happy Valentines Day to you and your S/Os tomorrow.
Reminder that next years Super Bowl will be played on 2/14/27... St Valentines Day. Named after the great Saint Valentine.
A tremendous Saint who lived a righteousness life. He was beheaded by Claudius Gothicus who was a terrible person if you look into it.
The next and more famous St Valentines day massacre occurred in 1929. It was orchestrated by the std ridden gay lovers Al Capone and George "Bugs" Moran (aka bug moron).
The next massacre will be on 2/14/27 when they roll out another lbgtqia halftime show.
I'll be tuning into TPUSA.

He's a massive pussy sometimes. Other 98% of the time hes good though.

We all have our moments, nbd.

@Substance Abuse did you see Elzio's new avatar so you know he's posting on every sub?

My horizons are way out there as are my perimeters, I confess way too many interests. Hard to keep up with them all, but I manage.

Came across this avatar over at a Sword & Sorcery literature forum, I like it.

Dude, we both arrived in 2023, I have close to 5000 posts while you are pushing 18,000, hmmmm?

I'm a fan of grimdark myself. It's a nice way to get something "adult" and a lot of entertainment. I really like Sci-fi too but 99% of Sci-fi is super gay.

Conan as a kid was awesome, then I grew out of it and as as adult I appreciate Robert E Howards work a lot more. Sometimes I feel as if his verbiage is repetitive, but it also wasn't consumed all at once like we could later on. Solomon Kane is the undisputed GOAT of Sword and Sorcery. By far the most badass character of Howards, and maybe the entire genre.

The Elric stuff was really interesting but its all to disjointed for me to ever get deep into. It starts off well but then there are too many worlds/universes/timelines and even with a reading order it gets pretty wild.

I haven't read any Thongor, but it seems grittier so maybe that would be something I can get into here soon.

I enjoyed Lovecraft when I was younger, but thematically its pretty drab for me now. It may have been overexposure to that style of writing/themes though.

If you ever get a chance to read Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy its excellent. All of his books are. You can probably find them on youtube and listen to them. They're popular enough I'd think at this point.

Funny you'd mentiom Abercrombe, been hearing a lot of good things about him, yep, on the prowl.

REH is simply ..Da Man..if talking heroic fantasy, I have most his stuff by design,

Elric is a hard read as ya know you do have to work to get it, if in that mood, cool.~~~ Why no movie?

Thongor, Kane by Karl Edwards Wagner a must read if into REH. Bummer is the are onlly a few Kanes.

I should have mentioned Poe and of course the great JRR Tolkien and his Lord of the Rings epic.

Yep, a lot of great stuff.

Kane

Ya don't think Vince, nay~~~~~

Abercrombie's new book The Devils was really good. Interesting alt-history fantasy setting.

I read it, it was pretty fun outside of the forced lesbian angle with Alexia and Sunny. Abercrombies work with relationships doesn't feel as forced as that angle. I understand what he was going for, and once they made it to Troy it doesn't feel as forced. I do think he wrote Alexia's story pretty well though, you can see the turns a long time before they happen but at least her character is written well in the moment. Vigga's story was kind of funny, Jakob stole the entire show though. Dude's just tired of being fucking tired and the sarcasm was peak Abercrombie. Baptiste's entire arc was really underwhelming.

Thanks for the recommendation, I have it saved on a tab.
Dubbstance is a good person and my friend.
I like him, he's good people. I like a lot of the people who post here.
