Most grounded people knew he would regress // not play at that silly level forever - Niners weren't paying him to be Tom Brady and they don't need him to be. Just need him to be a top 10 type QB. They would pay the guy that played week 1-3 this season the same contract IMO.

And the entire point of this - "They took a giant risk". What was their move besides resigning him? Franchise tag him -> He gets hurt and they have to tag him again, or pay him the same contract/more next offseason. Tag him twice and you have a Kirk Cousins situation which would be way worse.
