Not being covered is definitely not illegal formation and never a flag. Every blown coverage by the defense would mean the offense gets flagged for the D's mistake....


In the NFL, an illegal formation occurs when the offensive team doesn't line up properly before the snap. This can happen if:

Fewer than seven players line up on the line of scrimmage

Eligible receivers aren't the leftmost and rightmost players on the line

Five properly numbered ineligible players don't line up on the line

There are too many players lined up in the backfield

An eligible receiver is between the five down linemen




Refs really blew this call, post game they showed video of Jared tell 68 in the huddle to go report before he walks over and reported.

The thing is, if it was illegal formation and it's called, that's 100% fair. But to call a no report when he clearly did is 100% home cooking bullshit.

The only fault of the Lions was Goff throwing away the second attempt.

Last thing I'll say: As I look at this logically, it makes even less sense. Skipper said he thought 70 was eligible. Yet, 58/68 both walk up to him to explain that 68 is eligible. He begins to walk away and 70 runs up to both 58/68 as Skipper is walking away and doesn't see him clearly.

There's zero way to explain Skipper's perspective other than he didn't even care to pay attention to the play call and legitimately ignored the responsibility of his job in a billion dollar sport on national television. As well as not paying attention to the two 6'3 300+ guy's in his face. But somehow calls the guy who isn't even near him eligible?

That's one of the most egregious calls I've ever seen. I'll promptly go fuck myself.

The refs just saved you the heartbreak of seeing Dak drive down the field completing 3 more passes to Ceedee and Aubrey kicking the game winning 70 yard fg.
