I had a response on the complexity with the philosophy of music and it was just an enormous run on sentence with loosely related things tying it together. I do have it queued up and am at 11:29 in the video. Listening to it while I try clean up my kitchen.
Interesting stat to this is he performed this 5 times in 1978; the 2 new york performances bookend it and he played it in Philly, Los Angeles and randomly Ann Arbor in between. But I guess the interesting part is he hadnt't played with orchestra for 25 years before that january new york performance. So this is the last one, last time he ever touched the piece.

Not when we use Pascal's wager

(originally wanted to use Anselm's Ontological argument but changed due to having to keep this as concise as possible)

  • God is, or God is not. Reason cannot decide between the two alternatives
  • A Game is being played... where heads or tails will turn up
  • You must wager (it is not optional)
  • Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing
  • Wager, then, without hesitation that He is. (...) There is here an infinity of an infinitely happy life to gain, a chance of gain against a finite number of chances of loss, and what you stake is finite. And so our proposition is of infinite force when there is the finite to stake in a game where there are equal risks of gain and of loss, and the infinite to gain.
  • But some cannot believe. They should then 'at least learn your inability to believe...' and 'Endeavour then to convince' themselves.

Even if God doesn't exist you still lived a good and noble life following the teachings.

@Croaker another interesting bit of trivia regarding this song is that 50 years prior, when Horowitz emigrated to America, one of the first things that happened is he played this in that famous Steinway basement in queens with none other than Rachmaninoff himself accompanying him playing the orchestral part on a second piano.

The whole thing is like 2 or 3 years old at this point. There was a bluegrass festival or country festival (I play neither) and I was recommended by a friend. I'm not going to name drop, but I'm just a session guy for this dude. He's in a relatively decent sized band otherwise and we hit it off. His other band is his commitment and we've had shows cancelled because of his wedding and a funeral. It's not a serious thing, but we text fairly often and do rehearsals that leads to nothing, but at least its a good time playing with good musicians so I don't just drop it.

Its not a redneck thing, its just a fun project he likes to do. I just want to get paid.

I didn't know you played. This means we should be better friends (now that you are done with NFL and all that).

@Croaker as I get older. I am finally realizing that the single most powerful thing a person can possess is faith, and doesn’t necessarily need to come from a deep religious belief.

That being said, I don’t have faith the Eagles will pull this win off to put the thread back on topic, lol.😂

You have a daughtetr in college, yeah? That is cool, I think @Croaker has a kid too. I just wanted to poimt out that I DONT and so i realize i have a completely different frame of refeerence than you guys. I simply dont know...

I'd also like to point out how hilarious the NFL thread is today. I do understand that. We got everything from a little football talk, fucking Horowitz videos and @fica bodying fools left and right . Not bad IMO

yeah im a dime a dozen guitarist with a penny a dozen personality

People tell me I can sing but I dont have confidence in doing it outside of growls and stuff. I don't like it, even doing back up vocals.

I thank my family and love that has kept us all going. It's not easy. I try to do one thing every day that makes someone smile. A kind gesture. An older lady had 2-3 cases of water coming out of walmart the other day. I took care of that, as men should.

I...HATE singing. Like physically i hate it. Dancing too, for that matter. I REALLY like playing the piano though, it makes my dick all sorts of hard. I like the 88 even more than i like pussy.

Fucking hell, man. As a pianist you will like this. Great movie, great opening song.
