**Next For Maia?**

Big Rigg/Ellenburger got next (sometime around 4th of July)

Later in 2013, the winner of Maia vs. Rory/Condit can get a shot at the title

I agree, Kos usually has decent top control. And i think the striking would be pretty even. Kos is less diverse with his strikes imo, but has more power.

Neither seems to have really diverse stand-up but Maia knows koscheck's game, trying to throw that right hand with reckless abandon, and i think Maia would capitalize on it.

Yea, i just see Maia throw more kicks than Kos does. But you're right, Kos is a little predictable, but his technique is solid, and has legit power.

yeah i wouldn't like a right hand off him any time soon haha

Nah, but he could have improved his position, try to mount him, go for some subs, maybe a little ground and pound, not just hold onto his back.

As I said, it was an extremely impressive performance by Maia, and he's a beast, it just didn't remotely excite me.

improved his position??
he had his back the whole time

he was constantly looking for subs, thats why their arms were always moving around and fitch was always grabbing maia's arms and pulling them down.

like you said, you clearly dont love the ground game. maybe its only because you dont understand it?

Kampmann - no. It seems like a step down after beating Fitch
Hendricks - no. That man is way over due his title shot and after he fucked up ellenberger he should get it
Ellenberger - no. He will be coming off a loss
Kos/lawler - no. Maia is above both of those guys right now
Rory/condit - yes. Rory isn't in a hurry for a title shot at 170 so if he wins he would prefer a shot at Maia over Gsp. And if condit wins he isn't in a good enough position after 1 win to fight Gsp again.

Kos would be fine if he beat Lawler first imo.

meh, i don't want maia to lose.

i think rory is going to beat the crap out of condit this time and he's just a shitty matchup for maia. demian probably won't be able to take him down and he certainly can't stand with him.

i think kampmann and condit are the best opponents for him stylistically right now. koscheck, ellenberger would be really tough, especially koscheck. hendricks and rory both knock him out in the first round.

How is Rory such a bad matchup for Maia? Does he have better wrestling than Chael, Fitch, or Story? Or a better grappler than Jorge Santiago?

he's such a bad matchup because he's incredibly athletic and very technical. i don't think he's a better wrestler than those guys, but i do believe he will anticipate maia's takedowns and defend them.

and his stand up will be way too much for demian.

i would totally be rooting for maia, but rory lights him up quick.

I picture Maia throwing Chael Sonnen - a bigger, MUCH better wrestler - to the ground and don't think it's a stretch to think he can do the same to Rory. Also, Rick Story was a big strong wrestler with great TDD that looked great against Hendricks in their fight... Maia got him down pretty easily.

I know a lot of people have a new found love for Maia, but I really don't look forward to seeing him fight. If he can't submit you, he'll just control you till the end of the fight. The Fitch fight was one of the most boring fights I've ever seen. Impressive showing by Maia, but bored me to tears. He didn't even try to do anything, just got back control and held on it till the rest of the round.

Just bleed, brah.

Seriously, if you don't have an appreciation for that level of grappling, I really don't know what to say.

Nah, I can appreciate it and as I said, it was impressive as hell, but after the 1st round I knew that's it's gonna be like that for the rest of the fight. I knew that Maia will just hold onto him and not finish him.

EDIT: If the roles were reversed and it was Fitch holding Maia down like that he'd get shit on for ages.

Winner/loser of Condit/Rory. I think it would be a good fight and would make sense considering the current UFC WW ranking.

Condit or Rory sounds good. Feed him to the sharks. Don't be scared homie.
