I gave the article a more thorough read than I had time for yesterday and it's a decently balanced take that makes room for arguments in favour of and against the judgements against them. I somewhat understand why they were sentenced as they were, but I agree the sentences should have been harsher. The title of this thread is a bit misleading, however. The first guy described in the article may still be deported and here's to hoping it happens.

Side note:
The article mentions that there have long been concerns that sentences for sex crimes are too light. It's not just these two. When I lived in Ontario 30 or so years ago, a person was convicted of the sexual assault of two kids and he only got 14 months in jail. That was far more heinous than this.

But as I said above, I don't think the courts' decisions in this cases are all that outrageous; I just don't agree with them. TS's goal, however, particularly with the thread title, was specifically to generate outrage against immigrants and how they are treated in court. It's not a good thing. These are 2 individuals in a nation with a population approaching 40 million.
