Pretty disheartening to see @Jackie Blue make this thread. It seems so purposefully daft to view the subject like how it's presented in the OP. Setting aside the flawed nature of any "up to" and "as much as" discussion on entitlements generally, New York citizens have access to far more than undocumented immigrants in the way of traditional unemployment benefits. The cash payments made up small portions of all the recovery bills to date.

Saying "unauthorized immigrants don't suppress wages" as a settled statement of fact is wrong. There are conflicting studies and conflicting measures on the topic. From what I've gathered, I think it's safe to say that undocumented immigrants do lower wages in some specific industries like construction, likely (though not certainly) do lower wages overall to a razor thin extent, but do not shrink the number of available jobs in the American economy.

I was under the impression that NYC has a large education budget. Schools have been loaning out ipads, chromebooks, and laptops since April 2020.

A couple facts:

1. Big cities are way, way, way more economically productive than rural areas or the country as a whole and receive far fewer tax benefits per tax dollars paid. They exist in a constant state of bailing the rest of the country out. For instance, in Illinois, Chicagoans receive about $0.75 for every $1.00 paid in state taxes. Meanwhile, the rural Southern Illinoisans receive about $2.25 for every $1.00 paid in taxes.

2. Undocumented immigrants do pay into the system, but they usually don't reap any of the benefits. Some 70% of undocumented immigrants pay income taxes. 100% of them pay sales taxes. 100% of them pay property taxes. Yet none of them can draw social security or medicare.
