What is there about this story that suggests it makes sense to conflate the broad-based stimulus initiative and money given to these people for an entirely different purpose?

I don't really think it's best at this point to completely neuter my thread title and OP. I made an edit already and we're hashing it out in the thread. I'm taking what you've written into consideration. To be completely honest, while I'm of course aware of unemployment benefits related to Covid-19, the article I sourced barely mentions it in the body and it wasn't really fresh in my mind at the time.

If I were to do this all over again, I would have created a different OP, although I think my fundamental position would be essentially the same. No lying or attempt to deceive here. But I can always do better and will try my best to do so. I think I did learn a lesson from this thread that I don't necessarily want to say here on the main board right now, but that I will keep in mind moving forward...
