Hey yall, I've been boxing for a little while, but I'm new to the boxing forums/community. Even though I've already been practicing and loving/appreciate the art, only until recently have I been getting into watching/knowing more of the boxers and the sport. I have some questions which I'm sure you guys have discussed ad nauseum, but would really help fast track me towards having a better understanding of the sport.

Thanks in advance :)

-GOAT Fighters?

-Best camps/Trainers?

-Best countries/cities/styles?

-Important/exciting/fights every fan should see?

-Favorite fighters? I would love to hear context about how boxing grew.

-Famous quotes?

Thanks for reading, take it easy

Glad to see someone new here who is interested in The Sweet Science.
Those are some good topics which i'm sure will draw many different opinions. Not being critical but for starters i'm not a fan of the term "GOAT Fighters." There should only be one GOAT. The way that Boxing term has been deluded by mma fans annoys me. They have a new GOAT every 6 months. All Time Greats is what we commonly say in boxing.

Here's a great old school fight you should watch.

As far as great quotes go here's a cool one, spoken by Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

If they cut my bald head open, they will find one big boxing glove. That's all I am. I live it

@The Adder Great quote. I guess i used the term GOAT boxers as in those that are in the discussion, as I'm sure opinion greatly differs.

Thanks for sharing man, Ill watch that fight, I appreciate your time!

There's a thread in here about Ezzard Charles. Check him and some of the names @RascalBird posted

In terms of getting to your destination i suggest you get on on board the 2016 Eastern European Express to Golovkinvile, passing Lomachenko mountain & Kovalev mound.. it will take you right to the top!

Yeah, got my eye on all those guys. Hard to believe Lomachenko has a loss

I know it's cliche, but YouTube honestly does have a lot of fights.to watch. For the more obscure, you can order boxing DVDs but just know that the video quality is often lacking. When I first started, I looked at styles I found appealing, and found fighters to match it.

The thing that is weird about boxing is that there is no modern fighter who has an attribute that hasn't been surpassed by a previous fighter. For example, no modern HW punches harder than Shavers or Foreman in my opinion (PFP at least). If you like Golovkin, Khaosai Galaxy did everything Golovkin does, just better. More modern guys like Terry Norris were incredible, but had fatal flaws in their game.

I'm still learning a lot by reading what the aficionados here are posting. If you ask them they'll be a bigger help than me. Some guy with an odd fascination with fighters with high melanin content might weird you out, but other than that, you'll get good advice.

Watch Arguello vs Escalera 1

You wont be dissapointed

I worked with Arguello's little brother and said to me that fight was their favorite and they talked about it everytime, he even described every detail to me, the pouring rain, the very loud pro Escalera crowd, how they formed a friendship with Escalera, he even thought his own brother wasnt going to win but he somehow just got a second wind and poured it onto Escalera in the 13th

Thanks for that, great fight

Such a good fight. Is there anyone today who could carry stamina like this into the 13th round? Arguello showed tell tale signs of fatigue late in the fight, moving straight back to avoid punches, but look at his footwork even when he is tired! He's not going for broke, but rather keeps his jab going and keeps moving. Escalera was a darn god fighter in his own right, and breakneck action you see early is amazing. Great pick for a fight a newcomer should watch.

PWill used to throw a zillion punches, he could probably go 15 maximum power.

Hi TS...

All the help you'll need is over the MC Paul Barman Appreciation thread.

@The Adder crazy fight, not sure how Ramirez held on. Rosario looked great early on, but Ramirez recovered better than he did

That guy could last all night. Beautiful heart he had.

what got you into boxing Mr Freud?

I always enjoyed martial arts, and of course I sheepishly enjoyed the Rocky movies. Besides the need to defend myself, I had just started to take wrestling seriously, and my mom knew a guy from school that trained people in boxing; figured it would be a good supplement.

It was right up my alley, and I immediately loved the art. My brother recently demanding that I sit down and watch Gatti-Ward 1 made me realize I want to watch and learn the history of boxing. The more I watch styles and fights play out, the more I understand the moniker of the Sweet Science.

the sweet science indeed, and how sweet it is. That's a pleasant little story there Mr Feud, you will fit in nicely here. You seem very enthusiastic in learning all the glorious battles in boxing history. Are you still in college.
