Got a new movie here from Oliver Stone.

I'm a bit iffy on the trailer, but I am interested in the subject and I just about jumped up and cheered when I saw Nic Cage.

I love Nic Cage. Good to see him in a big budget movie under a top director again. That guy just does NOT get the respect he deserves.

Thoughts on all this?

Any lack of respect for Nick Cage is due to him taking shitty roles to pay off debt.

What sucks is that it seems like those are the only roles he's being offered now. It's only on occasion that he even seems to be getting offered roles from top directors with big budgets.

If he was still regularly showing up in theater-quality films, then I wouldn't really care that he's doing this low-budget shit on the side.

I'm REALLY interested in the story, but the trailer left me a little flat to be honest. I'll see it though.

Yeahhhh, that's kind of where I'm at, too. Very interesting story. And good talent both front of the camera and behind it.

But the trailer seems like it could be just a LITTLE stronger.

I put a lot of faith in Oliver Stone. I hope it's as entertaining and thought provoking as JFK, that was a truly great film.

Oliver Stone I think is really kind of a mixed bag. He's made a lot more good movies than questionable ones. No doubt about that. And he's definitely a legendary director at this point. But not everything has been a winner.

I would certainly love for this movie to be as good as JFK, but I kind of doubt that will be the case. Snowden seems a little more light-weight to me.

Speaking of Oliver Stone, anyone here see Talk Radio back in the day? That's a good, and often overlooked, movie of his.

I guess with directors you'll have a few misses but when a guy has JFK, Natural Born Killers, W., Platoon and Wall Street on his resumé, I think it's fair we give him the benefit of the doubt.

That Snowden voice is accurate but distracting, similar to the facial prosthetics Levitt wore in Looper.

I still remember him at the height of his career during the con air era. I also still remember seeing the previews for the sorceress apprentice or whatever it was called and thinking WTF happened to him.

Man.. I'm so mixed up with what Snowden did. One part of me says that he did the right thing, but one part says he should've done it and stayed in the U.S.

Glad Nick Cage is in a big time movie!
I'm going to see this regardless though.

Never did see W. That good?

Yeah, the first movie that really turned me onto Nic Cage was The Rock, which was closely followed by Face/Off. The combination of those two movies coming out so close together basically solidified him as a legend in my mind and made me a fan for life.

From '94 to about 2005 he really had a HELL of a run. And then . . . something happened. I don't know what, but there was a steep drop off from then until now. It was almost as if after he made The Weatherman he was kicked out of the club where actors get good roles. He's had a few gems since then--Kick Ass and Joe, specifically--but it's mostly been forgettable films.

FREE NIC CAGE! GIVE HIM ROLES!

Time for a Nic Cage protest to get him out of actors' jail!

P.S. The Sorcerer's Apprentice wasn't actually that bad.
