New Japanese fighting event "Ganryujima"

This is something CM Punk should be in. The questionable rules will give him an out when he loses.
 
I forgot this happened so I just watched all the matches. I thought they were a lot of fun, especially Watanabe's match. However, it seemed like the refs were a little inconsistent as to when they stood people up. I definitely hope they have a second event.
 
was a fun watch would watch again, anyone know if they announced the next one?

this was just a small event with hardly anyone there. it also seemed to be more focused on karate fighters. the mext event may be in july, but i'm not sure.

Have they talked about tweaking the rules some more? It would be nice if there was some ground fighting similar to judo, where if you don't advance your position or get the submission/attack, the action is stood up (contrasting the Unified Rules time frame for advancement/"action").
 
This is the closest thing to early UFC, in my opinion.

Ganryujima doesn't sound like an internationally marketable name (Reminds me of raiden championship) and I guess they should change it to Circle K.

K stands for Kickboxing, Karate, KungFu, Krav Maga, Kwrestling, Kiu-Jitsu, and KKK.

If it's anything like sanshou, typically a push out off the platform will get you reset. What counts is getting thrown, knocked off, falling off because evading the opponent and things like that.

Edit: d'oh! just realized this already happened. time to catch up on the thread...

I had no idea Jimmy Ambriz was still fighting. He's pretty old school.

I just watched a Ganryujima event on youtube. It was really interesting. Especially a fight between... a Brazilian guy? in a green kurtka... and a sumo guy in a red kurtka. it seemed to be Capoeira/BJJ vs Sumo and at one point the smaller Brazilian ran around the sumo and tried to dump him over the side of the ring with blistering speed, but you don't move a sumo if he doesn't want to be moved. Except then the Brazilian missed a cartwheel kick and threw him out of the ring with his legs. So weird. So awesome.

Also sumo tried to throw Brazilian out of ring when he pulled guard. he carried him to the edge, but couldn't shake him off.
