I remember some years back people were drinking from a natural spring in a mountain where I live and a few people died due to some brain eating bacteria in the water.
Same thing could happen here.

When I lived in the country there was a spring people would go to for fresh water. I wouldn’t drink it tho. On long walks my brother would slurp water out of it, getting his mouth germs in it. Then he’d wash his hands in the water. Man you never know what kinda nasty shit you could be drinking.

It doesn't matter if the water is straight from a waterfall at the bottom of a glacier, it could be contaminated with all sorts of animal feces and bacteria.

That’s not necessarily true. They still have to test their water yearly for bacteria and contaminants, and groundwater (even if safe to drink) can have excessive minerals like calcium, iron or copper that would require filtration to avoid damage to plumbing, poor tasting water or other effects.
