Because he was milking those "low blows" for all they were worth. Elite fighters don't bitch the way Kovalev was. He also showed signs of not wanting to be there long before,...including the time he deliberately turned completely around with his back to Ward in hopes of Weeks stepping in to protect the prone fighter (to buy more time). Kovalev flat out quit,...he just set it up so that Weeks will now take the blame.

All he said was 'keep it clean' to BOTH fighters. He definitely got rocked hard but there were at least 3-4 low blows before that. The stoppage was literally because of a low blow. Entire card was mismatches followed by a low blow stoppage, amazing.
