Did anyone go?

All I knew before the doc was watching Korn countless times. Knew nothing about the blatant ripping people off and women being raped, burning the entire place down nightmare.

What a stain it left on the legacy, I really can't believe I knew nothing about the horror till watching the documentary. A Sherbro and I watch pretty much everything doc wise that's in our space so when he told me to watch, I watched.

Alot of my buddies did . They all left when the woke up Sunday morning they missed the fires and really crazy shit. Said it stopped being fun early Saturday when they couldn't find a place to shit and the showers smelled as bad as the porta potties. Then as day went on they decided to leave next morning as it got exponentially worse. Mostly the smell an the heat.

Said Music Saturday was great though. They went back to car after Saturday music was done and left next morning.

I would of gone but I got married a few weeks before ( and saying hey babe im gone for 5 days with friends at a music festival see ya in a bit - might been a bad look 2 daya after honeymoon)

The funniest part is how the narrative was pushed to blame Limp Bizkit for things getting out of hand. When you had the Red Hot Chilli Peppers literally telling people to fuck each other and set shit on fire. Not only did they encourage all the destruction but they also encouraged the sexual assault.

It shouldn't be any surprise to anyone who knows about the rape fuelled history of that garbage band. Anthony Keidis has commited so many sex crimes, it absolutely blows my mind he and the band haven't been cancelled.

It got out of hand as everyone woke up Saturday- to a trash field , sewage smell , no where to take a shit or shower and paying 20 bucks for a hot dog and a water bottle. Then 105 degrees on rmtarmac and no shade in sight. The bands were who they were tbe chaos was caused by everyone e pisssd an angry about the facilities.

Didn't go but it made for an interesting watch.

Watching it right now.

They were fucked from the moment they tried to make this all about profits.

First of all, there was no Vietnam uniting everyone in a peaceful manner.

Second, instead of just weed, shrooms, and acid, they also had a shit ton of alcohol.

And they attracted the spring break frat boy crowd.

Then they pissed them all off by price gouging and not having enough toilets.

Kinda

They messed up
A. Choosing a airfield with no shade in August
B. Not cleaning or e en managing tbe porta potties or showers- toilets were in unuseable after day 1.
C. Charging crazy prices 20 bucks for a water and a hot dog.
D. Not servici g the water fountains allowing all free water to be contaminated and everyone getting sick.
E. Almost no security

These things could of been dealt with though if the choice of bands was different . You add all tbe facility failures and throw in the Angry Nu Metal/ Metal, rap - that lit the fuse to the gunpowder the facilities created.

Should of gone with more mellow bands and mixed in a few of the edgy stuff like in 94. 99 was basically all 90s rage music.

Great documentary. A lot of shortcomings on behalf of the promoters and a very interesting time in music. I was in high school at the time, and I remember so much of the popular music being very angry lol. Eminem, DMX, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.

It was an interesting time to say the least, and I look back on it with nostalgia.

The blonde skinny guy that's being interviewed looks like a real life version of Beavis

Too young and far away to go when it happened. Much Music played a lot of footage from the PPV and did a lot of coverage.

Good documentary. Better than the unnecessarily political one Bill Simmons/HBO put out a year or two before. Where they tried to make Woodstock 99 seem like a preamble to Trump and Jan 6. Shut the fuck up.

My only complaint about the Netflix one is how much they harped on the aggressive sound of all out of the bands and how it contrasts with the “image” of Woodstock. Especially how they talked about Bush settling down the crowd after Korn like people were about to die if they didn’t get a dose of softer post grunge.

But they also didn’t go overboard kicking Limp Bizkit like they ruined everything like just about every Woodstock retrospect has done.

The promoter kept things in perspective. A lot of things went bad. But It was a kick ass show and i bet most everybody who was there would love to go again. Even if they knew everything would repeat itself

Even me not having been there. Knowing the place smelled like shit and was scorching with no clean water. Still wish I was there

Felt bad for Bush and Jewel but that venue was not for them.
Limp Bizkit, Korn and RATM and Kid Rock had that place going nuts.
Flea being totally naked would not go over as well these days.
The security guards were hilarious
Don't watch this on an airplane next to a very nice, mid 60ish lady. She was not amused...

Get a bunch of frat boys together for 3 days, bake them in the summer heat, and fuck them on simple human essentials. What could go wrong???

Check out Podcast 99 if you are intrigued. There’s some crazy first hand stories to be had.

The Netlfix doc was decent.

Better than the bullshit woke narrative the HBO one perpetuated.

My wife grew up in Utica, so not far from Rome. She wanted to go but her parents wouldn't let her. Probably for the best lol.

I didn't know about Kiedis' sex crimes, wouldn't shock me. But out of the big acts I've seen RHCP are the worst live, I've seen them 4 times and they've never been good, Kiedis can't sing and they're individually good musicians but don't seem to really gel at all for me.

Tori Amos tried calling this out years ago and was flat out ignored. The story of dudes life is an entire train wreck starting with his father being an absolute waste of skin.
