Netflix Recommendations

I've watched the IT Crowd too.

I've tried getting into Father Ted twice before, but couldn't. This also happened to me with Gavin & Stacey which I'm currently watching and love. I got it though, so I'm giving it another shot as soon as I'm done watching Gavin & Stacey.

Mayberry: Let's Talk British Comedy

Watch the episode where Ted and Dougal attempt to enter the Eurovision Song Contest, purely for this song

All the good stuff has been mentioned already. I'm so bored of Netflix I've resorted to watching The Wonder Years.

Are you sure it's the UK version? They showed the US remake over here and it sucked compared to the UK version.

Likewise, Life on Mars got a US remake and I heard it wasn't as good. I don't get why they do remakes for different countries tbh, as a British guy I can appreciate American drama and comedies just as much as British ones. I'm sure everyone else is capable of doing the same.

The US Version has perhaps the single worst ending to a TV show that I've ever seen. I don't even need to post a spoiler tag, because the ending will spoil it more than I ever could, but I'll put one anyways in case people do actually want to watch it.

The original version is one of the greatest TV endings in history, along with Ashes to Ashes wrapping it all up amazingly. The US ending is just a classic case of "These people are too stupid to grasp any kind of subtlety or any questions being asked."

The ending is literally:
Hey, it was all a dream, I'm actually on a space ship, and you were there, and you were there, and you were there... Dad. Gene Hunt was actually Sam's dad in real life. Oh yeah, they're on a mission to Mars, they're looking for... LIFE ON MARS! And they're hoping for a successful... GENE HUNT!

And then they end it with the most appropriate song for a TV show called Life on Mars, where the ending is them trying to find Life on Mars... Rocketman by Elton John.

I challenge you to name a couple.

Jack Reacher, the American, who killed the electric car, hunger games, Thor, knight and Day, the avengers, transformers dark of the moon, Hannibal rising, the !Manchurian candidate, xmen first class, drive angry, are movies off the top of my head that are not available in the US or were available in Canada far in advance of Netflix US.

I had Netflix. Got rid of it for PlayOn.TV. Their user created plugin channels have way more content than anything Netflix will ever have. One Channel in particular for movies and TV shows. For streaming of live sports from all over the world, First Row Sports and some of the other sports streaming sites have plugins too.

They had a deal that was $40 (one time fee) I think for the Lifetime membership. I got in October of last year and I've saved well over $1000. I'm not sure if you can use the user created plugins with their trial version that they offer though.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of Netflix for PlayOn.

Life of Pi, Brides Maids, Taken 2, Madagascar 3, The Watch, Ice Age: Continental Drift. A lot of others I was seeing from 2011 back that the U.S. still doesn't have.

I'm mostly interested in TV series and other countries had House of Lies, Homeland, Justified, The Shield. I'm sure there are also many more in Documentaries. I've seen some big ones like Planet Earth either on Canada's or the UK.

Between a few countries, you can expand what is available by a good amount.

I forgot about Justified. I just noticed Girl with the the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher version) is available in Canada and not in the US.

Can anyone vouch for Lillyhammer? That new series with Steve Van Zandt?

Really? Wow. Things have changed. You guys seriously don't have those? The last time I looked at Netflix US, it was stacked. That was about a year ago.

Was there some "properties" lawsuit or something? If you guys have it as bad as we've always had it, how the fuck are they still thriving? House Of Cards is good, but not that good.

I can vouch that it is the definition of "average". Not offensively awful, nor amazing. Just a decent time waster, if you're bored and hungover on a Sunday afternoon.

Hi Guys

Anyone got anything good on netflix they have watched

I just got the US version which seems to have a lot more content than the UK one

cheers
If you are missing the old country check out Kate Dickie in a Scottish made movie 'Red Road'.

Typically grim. No one encapsulates misery quite as chillingly perfect like the Scots can. The soundtrack was seagulls squawking :icon_lol:

we have many of those now, just later than canada. and its really up to preference. somebody could just as easily point out that we (in the usa) had shows like nip/tuck and a dozen others far sooner than the canadian region.

And if you haven't popped a Jaffa in your gob & hoisted yourself up by your own belt after watching that ... pop "My Name is Joe" on straight after.

Last time I checked the Canadian version only had two seasons of Justified. It also only had six seasons of The Shield, which seemed a bit ridiculous.

Yes on Justified. No on The Shield.

We've got The Shield in full. At least I think so.

I recommend "The Fall" - good show, good cast, good acting. Different than most crime dramas, it's not a typical whodunit. Highly recommended for anyone interested in serial killers.

Also has Barristan Selmy and Roose Bolton from Game of Thrones in it!
Ive had this at the top of my queue for over a month now and they still keep sending me the discs next following down in my queue ... "Very long wait" :(

Try the hola plugin with chrome and you can switch countries.

That is one awesome thing to know about thanks for that. Do you know any way to use that on PS3 or a blu ray player without having to pay a monthly fee?

I watched it a few weeks ago and I thought it only had six. I'll have to check again.

I don't know who told you that, but as a Canadian subscriber I can tell you that that is bullshit. The Canadian Netflix has about 25% of the content that the US version has. It's quite pathetic actually. We'll get maybe one or two new high profile movies a month. Newest one I saw was Maniac, and we got that a month after it was on the US version.

At least we get UFC content
