Beyond impressive. Makes me wonder if Dake could have also gotten it done at 86 kg. The man was more competitive with Valencia than any of these dudes at worlds.

Snyder up tomorrow with Sadulaev and Tazhudinov in his bracket. Seems crazy that Sadulaev isn't even seeded but he was "only" world champ at 92 kg last year not 97.

Also Hendrickson with the Grade A fuckup in the second period when he was down 4-8. Went for a head pinch turn WTF when Kurbanov had his arm posted on the mat on that side, so Hendrickson just took himself down then allowed 2 gutwrenches to lose by tech and get eliminated. I don't think Steveson would have made that mistake and he should have been the man at 125 kg had he actually decided what he wanted to be when he grows up. But apparently backing out of jiujitsu matches and winning MMA fights with turf toe is more important.

And to answer your previous question, I think Dake could have won the tournament since Yazdani wasn't there. Ghasempour would be a huge challenge for him though.
 
Damn Haines just lost 2-3 to Kougioumtsidis in the 79 kg final. He got the TD with seconds left and thought he was going to get a gut for 2 more and the win but he couldn't get it done. Apparently the first FS gold for Greece so props to the man for that.

Hidley with the epic comeback from an 8 point deficit to win 92 kg gold. But damn Gadzhimagomedov had some nice chest wraps in there. Also what's with the Super HLUK belt they're giving to the gold medalists.

Snyder winning gold and Real Woods with bronze, both by 1 point with a lost challenge making it by 2. Snyder avoided that last minute push out by the hair on his ass, which would have lost him the match on criteria. Maroulis pinning all her opponents and wrestling for gold tomorrow.

Yoshida from Japan looked great and dominated Baranowski for bronze. At wrestling practice last night, my son's coach was shit talking his wrestling and said he lost to Snyder because his single leg finishing ability was for shit (which I disagree with lol). But dude's hand fighting looked amazing and Baranowski couldn't do shit except give up push outs and TDs while getting called for stalling. I thought dude's first name was Arashi ("Storm" in Japanese) like the Judo throw yama arashi (mountain storm) or Arashikage (Storm Shadow), the ninja clan of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow from GI Joe, which would be a fucking badass first name. But apparently his first name is Arash (Persian for bright and truthful) and he's half Iranian but somehow took his mother's surname.

Maroulis with the TD off an inside trip with 5 seconds remaining for the 3-2 win for gold. Woman has nothing left to prove and she'll be going on 37 but I wonder if she'll go for a 4th Olympic medal in 2028.

I mean, surely she can be picked up as a speaking extra in a super hero movie like Anne Wolfe was

I'm surprised as well. She's a good looking, clean cut woman who comes off nothing but class in every interview. Basically the female GSP. Granted GSP's Marvel movie scene and Gatorade commercials were unintentionally hilarious but I'm sure they could do something with Maroulis.

Did anyone else watch the National duals over the weekend? It was phenomenal! I hope this event picks up every year. Personally, I feel that the best team should be decided by duals. I'd love to see this event held near the end of the season next year.

I got a chance to watch a few of the Hawkeye duals. Pretty awesome they were able to get it done against the Cowboys without a HW, but man what a let down against the Buckeyes. That dual was over the second Davino smoked Ayala.

Ayala didn’t look good this weekend. He’s had slow starts in seasons past, but it’s still worrisome, especially given rumors that Jax will be in the mix come January.

A few positives—Ferrari looks like a favorite to win NCAAs. Still early, but barring injury, he has the ability to beat anyone at the weight. Endene surprised me. After watching him against Army, I thought he was going to show everyone why he was a D3 guy. He’s legit. Don’t see him winning a title, but a possible AA with the right draw. Block also stepped it up. Hopefully he can continue on and hit his potential.

After this weekend, though, I think Iowa loses 3, maybe 4 duals this season. 4th place at Nationals will be a feat.

Endene turned a lot of heads which I think is cool. Coming from D3, a lot of folks wrote him off.

And yeah despite losing a close match against Ohio State, I still favor Ferrari to win at heavyweight.
 
Awesome dual between Iowa and Iowa State -- anyone else watch?
