If Iowa adds the other 2 brothers as rumors are predicting, Iowa is going to knock off Penn State in the next couple of years no doubt if their recruiting class holds up.

I also find it fitting that a Ferrari commits with a graphic misspelling “Committed.”

You’re placing a lot of hope in something I wouldn’t rely on

I’m not that kind of fan. I have no ties to Iowa other than having moved here and don’t support any of their teams other than wrestling (because my school doesn’t have a program). I find it hard to root against most wrestlers even from rival schools because so many come across as upstanding kids. I don’t get that vibe with the Ferraris. Just the two of them have helped wreck Oklahoma State over the past couple years. I’d find it really hard to root on AJ as I do with most other Hawkeye wrestlers. The guy is cringy and not someone I want my kids looking up to.

That said, Anthony was a top 25 recruit, adding to an already stacked 2023 class. Not sure he slots in immediately to the team, but the likelihood at least one of his brothers follows along is pretty high. AJ is a bump on Warner and a likely champ, and Angelo is supposedly the top recruit in 2024. Whether they can stick around for more than a year is a different question.

Any chance we will see some high value transfers this off season?
Bernie Truax from Cal Poly is the biggest name I’ve seen who’s entered the transfer portal so far.

Shane Griffith is the biggest name I’ve seen thrown around. Tanner Sloan is another possibility.

Didn’t mention him in my last post, but AJ Ferrari would be the most high profile transfer if he gets himself out of legal trouble (though I guess he’s technically not enrolled anywhere right now). Based on his social media statements, his brother committing to Iowa, and his younger brother rumored to have visited Iowa City High School last week—it seems like there are some developments in his case not yet made public.

US Open is this week.

Spencer Lee is seeded #2

Rulon Gardner (51 years old) entered

How does Gable Steveson, who has been training for WWE, do this weekend?

Rulon was reportedly overweight and missed weigh-ins.

Without knowing much about Gable’s training, I think he wins it. That guy is special.

FFS wish this dude could get his shit together and make weight. He’s been teasing a comeback since 2012 Olympic trials. Would only be a curiosity at this point but a great feel good story to root for. After all he’s accomplished and been through, dude can’t even make 286 WTF.

He lost 200lbs and still couldn’t make weight.

SMDH I want to root for this guy but if you have to lose 200 lbs to make 286, you have catastrophic diet and lifestyle issues. I mean that's heavier than WSM competitors and much more than the average sumo wrestler. Dude is 6' 2" not 8' 2".

Really interested how Steveson will look.

I watched one season of the Biggest Loser when I heard Rulon was on it. He kept getting in trouble for midnight snacking and eventually quit the show.

I remember that. Things like that and now missing weight this week make me wonder where his head and heart have really been since 2004 Olympics. He filed for bankruptcy 10 years ago and part of me thinks these may have all been publicity stunts to get his name out there and make money, with no intention to ever compete again. TBH that's better than legitimately trying and failing to make the HW limit since 2012.

Early goings, but Lee and Vito looked sharp in their first matches—quick tech falls for both.

Alec Panteleo got pinned in his first. Huge upset at 70kg.

Lee looked great in his first two. Was up 9-0 in the quarters and faded. Ended up 9-4. Won’t be surprised to see Suriano beat him in the semis.

It’s Gross v DeSanto and Thomasello v Vito in the semis at 61. Pretty stacked division. DeSanto looked good—teched Colon 12-0.

I’m guessing we’ll see Joey McKenna vs Nick Lee at 65.

Looking like Sammy Sasso will face off between Hayden Hidlay v Berger in the finals at 70.

Nolf vs O’Toole will be a fun semi, with the winner likely getting Joseph in the final.

Starrocci teched Kemerer and has Dieringer in the semis, with the winner likely getting Marsteller in the final.

Seeds all advanced at 86 and 92.

Ben Kueter got injured in his first ad had to default. Hawkeye nation with a collective butt pucker there. Should be J’Den’s for the taking.

Gable is a monster. Hasn’t dropped a point and teched Wyatt Hendrickson 12-0. He gets Parris in the semis. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t cruise.

Impressed Steveson is doing this well. I thought he spent the last two years practicing shooting star presses off the top rope and learning how to sell European uppercuts and chest chops.

If Nolf takes this at 74, do you think he has a shot against Dake in June?

Gable got his streak cracked and gave up a point to Mason Parris in an 11-1 tech. Spencer Lee withdrew—poor guy is clearly messed up. It’s amazing how good he is even when injured. DeSanto over Gross was a big one. He’s got his hands full with Vito, though.

Nolf looked really good against O’Toole. I really don’t like betting against Dake, though. Sure it’s possible, but that guy is laser focused on staying on top for Worlds and getting to the Olympics for his gold.
