Wrestling NCAA Wrestling

You need to wrestle people actually trying to escape from you to truly get it
That is a problem with freestyle, nobody cares to escape - only to avoid getting turned. I would be fine if freestyle implemented a rule where the bottom wrestler gets a point to escape, and the top wrestler gets a point to ride for 20-30 seconds. The other problem is that freestyle refs only allow up to 7-10 seconds for the top wrestler to work. It would make for it to be a more well-rounded style.

Yeah. Anyone who has had to coach a teenager going through a breakup, especially their first or a bad one. Is just happy they are even showing up and competing sometimes. And that has nothing on what happened to Sidakov. I hope he can recover. Heard nothing but good things about him

*and I want Burroughs to win or lose gold by wrestling him. So no one can say Burroughs only won because Sidakov was there lol.
I guess he will be better with time; Tsabolov did a great job, Sidakov looked good, but not really 'with it'. Tsabolov hit a few nice counters; and the end-of-the-match sequence was pretty sick, and Tsabolov made it look easy. He is a tricky opponent, but I thought Sidakov would win a clear 5/6-0 match.

I also hope Burroughs can make it and retire at next year's Olympic games. Would be a good swan song. I think he beats Dake again, maybe he is a little older, but he has re-attacks and is more athletic than Dake - even now. I wonder if Chamizo can make any adjustments to deal with Burroughs and Sidakov - they are both 3-1 over him, despite him being the third/second best at 74.

I know I just think it's kind of a funny example since Varner seemed to have surpassed him in that exact year.
I was actual refering to the year Herbert won the Hodge after taking silver at worlds. He was incredibly dominant. Good call though bc A. I thought Herbert graduated in 2010 and B. I hadn't realized that he was already a major player in FS as of 2008. When did Varner move up to 197? Do you know if it was Varner that knocked Jake off at NCAAs in 2006?

One drill I found useful for riding and mat returns is bodylocking a heavy bag or grappling dummy and executing throw after throw after duplex after duplex while never relinquishing your hold on the dummy. Definitely not perfect but one of the few you can do by yourself.

Did anybody see Sidakov losing today, in his first match?

He will learn from this loss, he has had a tough year. Hopefully 2021 will be much better for him. He is our best shot at 74kg gold.
This is interesting bc its not like Tsabalov isn't proven at the highest level. They have totally different styles but I think Sidakov is just trickier overall. He's much harder to prepare for while Tsabalov is pretty straightforward.

Have any of you guys seen Sidakov lose to Metcalf a few years back? Its a match I been wanting to see.

Herbert was always pretty dominant.

I think he had like 4 official losses in college including 2 his freshman year ( 1 avenged in the 3rd place match a NCAAs) and 2 being to Askren (who lit Herbert up).

Besides those matches he ran through most guys including Mark Perry when they were both sophomores. His Junior year he beat a Freshman Varner in the finals 6-1 and took an Olympic redshirt that year and a lot of people thought he was unbeatable. But he went to Midlands and Varner beat him 3-1 in overtime. Herbert came back the next year and won fairly easily at 184 and Varner won at 197.

Zahid looked like he jumped levels and was going to have too much horsepower for JB to contend with but JB reached deep and gassed him out.

Can't wait for Taylor match in December.

Anybody else catch the match?

Whoa, are we getting a reinvigorated Ed Ruth? I'd love to see a rematch with Taylor along with matches against Bo, Cox, Zahid etc....
