Wow this thread is saturated with delusional Raptors stans.

you guys won your 1 and only title because of 1 guy. that guy is gone. The honeymoon is over . No superstars are ever going to Toronto period.

the Brooklyn nets were missing Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, deandre Jordan .. Next year you’re even more toast.
Brooklyn will be a problem for everyone next year, I won't deny that.

But the more basketball becomes loved across the country, the more talent will find it's way into the league. 6 Canadians taken in the draft is just the start.

10 years from now I'd wager we'll have a number of star players wanting to play for their home country.

Yeah, just like how they do in the NHL lol
John Tavares?

There's a number of Canadian players in the NHL that moved back to Canada when they had the chance.

But I don't give a shit about Hockey.

Him going to the Maple Laughs was a big deal because just about every other Canadian hockey star has been avoiding Canadian teams in free agency like the plague. Granted, the media pressure for hockey is much larger than it is for basketball up there, but stars "coming home" aren't really that common unless it is LA especially for winter sports.

Pascal still playing a bit below his standard from the regular season. But I have hope he'll start to play more like his old self.
Been saying all season this was inevitable from Siakan. Check his game log this season, he feasts on tank teams and is brutally inefficient vs anyone with anything to play for. At this point he's not a resilient yoff #1 on any level, all the makings of an ideal #2 tho

Faps are gonna have to rely on their manlet backcourt's ability to hit 3s and get FTs to drive their offense when things grind down to halfcourt ball

maybe
although Canada already has the most foreign players in the league, and has for like 3 years now

Everyone knows like Jamal Murray, Andrew Wiggins and shit, but people forgot sometime that like Stauskas, Olynyk, Boucher on the Raps, Corey Joseph, SGA, Dillon Brooks etc... are also canucks
edit: i think Stauskas is out the league, my bad. Sub in Trey Lyles then

I'm not an expert but I have to imagine Faps being at a significant FA disadvantage in terms of taxation. The reciprocal jock tax applies to players with US domicile playing interstate games within the US; crossing borders brings the feds into play

Nope it's just cold as fuck. Wasn't hard for Kawhi to choose between San Diego beaches or Shoveling snow to get to practice. Although I do like the multicultural aspect of Toronto even though my french canadian brethren from Montreal aren't to fond of some.

Lmao @ gAyD with the 2 pts 1 reb stat line in the 4th quarter. Is there anyone else in the nba more overrated than this can. At this point the lakes shouldn’t even offer him a max contract.
All the more reason Bern needed to close the game. As it happened, he scored all of 2 points (on a tip in, no less) in the final 7 mins of a tight yoff game. His assist hunting and resorting to selling out for rebunds (inflated by modern pace; 101.1 last night vs 85.5 2011 Finals) was indeed reminiscent of the 2011 Finals where he refused to engage after being shook by Carlisle's intermittent zone compounded by the suffocating noise experienced as the villain. Last night was an inflated stat-sheet version, enhanced by the sheer volume of POR bricks and 28th/30 ranked D, but the underlying playstyle was eerily similar

All this is not to shit on LeBrick, but you have to wonder if he's finally slipped off that athletic cliff people have been eagerly awaiting for the past half-decade, and whether his awareness of this is internally driving him back to his dark days of analysis paralysis. Bern was playing decidedly indecisive and under the rim last night. Read it and weep

tl/dr: UP THE DOSAGE

I'd wager Basketball pans out a bit differently. It's an entirely different beast than Hockey. Playing for the Raptors, given they just won their first title can't be compared to Hockey where a Canadian team hasn't won a cup since 93'. Most of the players today weren't even alive for that. They probably feel rather hopeless about that actually, which I'd say factors into their decisions not to sign.

Plus it's one team vs 7. I doubt playing for the Leafs means the same to a kid from BC or a Quebecer playing for the Canucks would be, as a Canadian Basketball player wanting to play for Canada's team. Hockey is fragmented, Basketball is united.

I will say though... the Canadian sports media is pretty awful. I wonder if they understand how much of a factor they play into what you mentioned.

Are you sure of this? TOR has cold weather but it's not much worse than Brooklyn and the Nuts landed two of the most notable FA signings in recent years. TOR is also a top 5 NBA media market

The tax issue is less certain, at least afaik

Next, Canadian financial advisors are claiming they can save him millions with proper planning on his contract. This is possible, but Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) would have to play along. The NBA allows 15% of a player’s salary to be allocated to a signing bonus. Under the US-Canada tax treaty, payments from the Canadian teams to US athletes (and vice versa) “as an inducement to sign an agreement relating to the performance of the services of an athlete” are to be taxed at 15%.

Because the NHL CBA does not dictate how much of a player's salary can be allocated to a signing bonus and because bonus money is to be paid in full, even when a player is bought out for a reduced salary, signing bonuses and the up-front money they offer are truly an inducement to sign. But the NBA is different. Kawhi Leonard is getting a maximum contract no matter where he signs. Shifting 15% of the contract toward a signing bonus is in no way an inducement to sign. Rather, it is a tax avoidance scheme that CRA would have to ignore to work.

Beyond that, the US states participate in a reciprocal jock tax arrangement so that players aren't double-taxed by both their domicile state and when they play out-of-state road games. Because this is an agreement between US states, I'm not sure how Canadia would apply

You're thinking of Buffallo New york, Toronto is colder than brookyln. Also even tax is an issue most superstars choose USA > CANADA. It is what it is. That's why the Raptors are loaded with international players.

Random question: What do you think of rushed two for ones? I can't stand them. I think you get two crap shots because they are both rushed and most of the time the team misses both instead of one decent shot.

The math proves it’s superior but your feels mean more to me.

Literally exactly what I said, but what does a former coach in the league know about basketball?

Audio is a little low though.

Raptors just gonna have to be spurs north, development of talent , picking smart

76ers gonna have some changes this off season lol
