NBA NBA Thread: Gamble Gate

What can you do, the guy that got drafted to Toronto said FUCK when it happened. Dude finally made it to the NBA, not he has to leave the country lol.

Toronto is a great city, better than a lot of American Cities besides the best ones.

He spends half the year travelling the US, he vacations for 3 months a year, he’ll make hundreds of millions of dollars, he can move in four years.

His reaction is ‘fuck’, how am I supposed to like this guy..?

I don't know what's going on, that's why I posted it. Seems weird he declined 90 million over 4 years. I mean gdamn, that's over 20 million a year on a team that already has to pay Luka and LeBron.

Big news, will be watching.

He choked in the play offs hard, but he’s kind rare-ish offensive assett.

Quite the void to fill, but yeah kinda hard to play him with Luka considering defensive issues.

Both Toronto and Utah drafted guys that don't want to be there. It can't be good for team morale. Maybe they will change their minds.

Its just weird. I understand betting on yourself but sometimes that backfires, i.e., Dennis Schroder on the same Lakers when he did it. Reeves really going to decline $22 million a year for 4 years.

The money side of nba keeps changing, seems like 20M a year isnt that much anymore?

He had some explosive moments last season, put up big numbers and had some really exciting plays.

Seems to be marketable and a fan favourite. He could be a bit of an assassin on a balanced athletic team.

I could see certain teams with the right fit giving him more than that, maybe not for four years though.

I get that Utah isnt a great place to live, especially if you’re not culturally aligned with the place, and have no interest in some of the most beautiful nature in the world.
(Nature is great but I’d never wanna live there)

But in basically every other country, with draft system in their leagues, the sportsmen just suck it up and play where they are drafted. They don’t insult the local fans who come out and financially support them to be super rich. It’s tacky AF.

It’s unbecoming for dudes who could be paid up to 1 billion over a career to act like divas and draft dodge and demand trades to get out of small markets if they don’t land in NY, TX or CA.

The league needs to put the foot down on this issue.

The leagues success / existence means that more than 4 popular states need to be part of the picture. It’s as simple as that.
Agreed 100%. I like the Ace pick, but after seeing Utah get shit on relentlessly last night I was damn near offended for them lol.

What you're saying makes sense but this is not true of the NFL. Didn't Eli Manning refuse to play for who drafted him? In any case I get your point but you got to think some of these young guys don't want to end up in situations like Dame. Play your ass off for a franchise that will go nowhere. Some of these franchises have been bad for so long many people forgot when they were decent in history.

Dame chose to stay for a decade, they can all leave after their rookie contract.

International players like Giannis, Wemby and Luka would have been happy to play wherever they were drafted, they don’t have the same entitled attitude.

Eli's dad and agent were against Eli playing for the Chargers. I don't think Eli himself gave a shit, but it ended up being the right move.

As for Ace not wanting to be in Utah, he'll love it. Utah is awesome to visit.

I don't know about TO guy. He seemed more shocked that he went so high. He's already tried to clear the air on his reaction. Not something you'd do if you were truly pissed.

My local In-Shape had to take the basketball court out and make it an artificial turf workout room because a bunch of people with black biseps got in an argument and one of them shot the ceiling.
