Well, if they don't need those body bags after 3 weeks, I guess they didn't need those medical supplies urgently after all.
I always come to these threads to see @Limbo Pete say “Why did I come into this thread?”
This one is ok so far lol
Give it time. This one is ok so far lol
im not going to try and break down the article and read it multiple times to get to the bottom of it but it seems theres a bit more involved including the legal infighting amongst tribes on aid and how it was to be distributed as well as the fact that the body bags is considered by all sides and accidental shipment.
Uh, that's actually a huge deal. The Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs, Tara Sweeney, is a shareholder, former executive, and lobbyist for a large Alaska Native Corporation. Her husband is also a lobbyist for one. While their legal status is unique and complicated in its own right, Alaska Native Corporations are not tribal governments. Money from Alaska Native Corporations goes to individuals, not typically tribes themselves. They are business that operate for individual profit. As such, they are open to getting the kinds of covid relief available to any company; including them in the pool designated for tribal governments was an massive cash grab. Sweeney is a stakeholder in this. The money being held up is iirc about 40% of the total, which represents an enormous amount that won't be going to tribes- many of which are still in desperate need of funds- but rather to private companies. The real story:
> Government announced $4.8 billion to tribal governments, money was to be distributed in April
> Tribal governments got into a spat because some money went to an Alaskan corporation and there's an Alaskan native working as assistant secretary in Indian affairs
> Money got held up because of the legal battle
You're a sucker if you read the story before blindly commenting on the title + byline. Just be lazy like @tonni, call it racist, and move on.
That's not by accident.
Native corporations put a lot of Alaskans to work but like any Corp can be run by some shady motherfuckers. I’d shit on them more if they didn’t have a lot to offer for Native people who want to further their education and work.Uh, that's actually a huge deal.
