Everyone bought into Rousey's hype and started to make claims about how incredibly strong and skilled she is, while few reasonable voices saw that Holm was far superior striker there and, unlike other fighters, fights smart.

I see this in Nate vs Conor too. While everyone is busy making Conor their idol and pushing silly claims about how good he is in this or that, they are overlooking that Nate is a great boxer, uses his reach effectively and seldom loses in the standup. If we look at Nate's past fights, even when he wasn't as fit as he is now, Nate was winning hand exchanges with RDA before RDA completely chopped his legs into immobility. Conor doesn't have strong leg kicks, mainly using them to be unpredictable and keep a comfortable distance(to the discomfort of shorter fighter who need to leap in), but here that distance is irrelevant as plays into Nate's rather than Conor's favor(Nate being taller and with bigger reach here). Other thing to note is that Nate came not only with improved body, but he had better skillset too recently. Johnson is no slouch and has one of the fastest hands in the division, but Nate handled him and shown, what if especially bad for Conor, that he can effectively lean back away from Johnson straights, what means that Conor will also have little chance reaching him the way he strikes.

Also, Conor always had problem with guys who move around and respect their opponents' hands. Aldo leaped in to Conor, Mendes stood there in front of him unusually inactive, Brandao also was constantly trying to leap into Conor. But then we look at Max Hollaway fight where Max moved around and wasn't near to being put away by Conor, also Siver did an excellent job just by actively moving around and respecting his opponent's hands, this taking into consideration that Conor was nightmare matchup for him when you look the way a much shorter fighter Siver leaves himself open when he strikes.

Its not hype when you crushed Aldo.

Surviving (only in Max's case, Conor being on one knee for some of the second and all of the third as well) while doing absolutely nothing of note on the offensive end is now considered "excellent"? Interesting.

This is very different to Rousey vs Holm as Holly was always a tough stylistic matchup for Ronda. Ronda had to get the fight to the floor but Holly has exceptional footwork, the best in the division easily. I never called the upset but it was definaterly conceivable that if Ronda couldn't grab hold of her she was going to get beaten up, which is what happened
The difference with Diaz vs McGregor is that Diaz is almost perfect for Connor. The height/reach is the only issue. He cant use his BJJ cus even if he grabs hold of Connor he has no wrestling. On the feet he is a flat footed walk forward boxer, with average power and no speed. I can see him being a walking punchbag for as long as this fight lasts. I like Diaz and he is game but there is no real interest in this fight fom me. The UFC have carefully chosen Diaz imo. The RDA fight was a really dangerous fight for both guys, this is a gimme fight along the same lines as his fight with Siver

It is only a "gimme" fight because of how good Conor is. Nate Diaz has been a nigh top 5 LW for years now....

I dont call it a gimme fight, its makin the best out of a bad situation. Its what the fans wanted to see, they just got it faster than they thought. Its not as good as fighting RDA,but considering the circumstances... I WILL FUCKIN TAKE IT.

So on one hand you had Ronda, who was running through B-level competition (at best) and Holy who was relatively untested. On the other hand you have Conor who just bulldozed Aldo and beat Mendes before that. Nate is very well known to everyone. Outside of both Holy and Nate being underdogs, the parallels pretty much stop there.

Yeah thats fair enough. Nate is a good fighter and he will help bring in the numbers. I think this and the fact that he is unlikely to beat the UFCs biggest asset is why this fight is happening and not a fight with Kabib!

I dont think its Conors job to find the hardest fight he can find on 10 days notice, and unfair to expect that.

Its not hype when you crushed Aldo.
Is Kevin Randleman better than Cro Cop? Or Sokoudjou better than Lil Nog? History favours the two people that got KO'ed over the two people who did the knocking.

Yes but none of that happened yet,Conor is still winning,so its irrelevant. Also, big Kev did win a HW world title, which Mirko did not do :)

Conor beating aldo is different. Cro cop had a hype about him too. He could be got at,people were just afraid of him. Aldo wasnt hype, everyone knows hes the best fighter at 145. Guy was tested in every way imaginable..Conor crushed him.

If you, or anyone in here on the same terms, haven't read my post, I am telling that the parallel between the two is in how Conor's fans underestimate Nate and look clear past him regurgitating what simple criticism Conor has himself said about Nate(ignoring even that Conor himself acknowledged Nate was good against Johnson and moved his head away good, then suddenly saying "but he's on short notice" as if he is hoping he is).

But, same as it was with Rousey, I guess I can't even criticize Conor in anything since he is just light years ahead in terms of his skills, no?

Then Bas took it from him.

You need to be looking at circumstances on how the fight went, instead looking at them as if they were couple facts on the sheet of paper. This way you wouldn't be as surprised when often the underdog does very well or wins the fight.

Holloway did fairly even with Conor on the feet before he was taken down, where Conor started upping his strikes landed statistics. Now think Conor taking down Nate...

Silly, The way Conor carries his hands and chin would offer no parallel references to RR
