Nate Diaz Is Still The Guy...

I concur. He's not even ranked in the latest Sherdog top 10 LW list, only as an honorable mention, and Sherdog's list is legit as F.

Basically Conor McGregor lost to a 10+ LW with no training camp, whose corner once quit for him by throwing in the towel. Let that stew for a minute.

Doesn't matter though I'd still bend over backwards for McGOAT.

Conor bless.
Nick Diaz threw in the towel. Nate was not KO'd.

The Bendo and Green decisions couldve easily gone Joshs way. Bendo def shouldve. Gil 3 was incredibly close too. Fact is Thomson is still one of the better LWs in the world and he got curbstomped by Tony yes, but Tony is a top 3 LW and possible championship caliber fighter on a great streak right now
I would like to see Nate and Ferguson. Both have a long reach and good ground game. I would have rather seen Kbib manhandle Alvarez for his return.

Exactly! He would have lost to Cole Miller ffs he dodged a bullet on that one

Forget Cole Miller. He would have lost to someone ranked 10+ away from Cole Miller. Expect him to lose everything and hold bitterness deep in him by the end of the year.

You talking like Josh Thompson is some kind of can bro i don't know where the hate come from but the diaz bros speak their minds they, are real and won't ever try to hide who they are to please someone else. They fight to live...We all know the strategy to beat em they're not invincible but most of the time the strategy consist of running away from them and outscore them...you get in a brawl or you get on the ground it's their world Nate is legit will probably never touch a belt but he ain't the shit you are describing you are delusional...And being top 15 in the most populated division in the UFC is definitively respectable...I see the hate but all i got to say in the end is: I'm not surprised MotherFu*****

Thomson is/was quality and probably a bit underrated. It's not like he lost to CM Punk or something.

I have and your condescending attitude makes me think that you have some kind of ulterior motive for this stance on Nate. But as you so eloquently said you're entitled to believe whatever you want for whatever reason you want to.

I just try to look at facts, that's my thing. I don't ignore something like a fighter missing weight for the first and only time in his career and then looking like shit in the fight. I try to link those two facts together.

I don't believe I ever definitively claimed Nate wouldn't be taken down by RDA either or even that the fight would be different. I merely pointed out some potential discrepancies in the first fight.

In another thread, recently, I wrote that if Nate gets the title shot against Robbie at 170 I would give him a decent chance at victory.

I'm no disrespector of Diaz as a fighter. You stand and bang with Nate (as a guy like Robbie would) and there's a good chance you will lose. Nate has a granite chin, pressures well, and throws too much volume.

But Nate will get beaten all day long by a good, grinding wrestler. He's almost exactly like Nick in that respect.

I can't argue that it's a weakness in their game but they've proved that they're evolving. Nate was checking kicks in the Johnson fight. Nick was even throwing a bunch of leg kicks in the Anderson fight. It's a slow evolution because they're obviously stubborn as hell but I believe they can still evolve and can still do great things in this sport. I'd love to see one of them net UFC gold. That'd be amazing.

Maybe Nate can step in when Khabib's inevitably injured.

Who got iced by Josh Thomson. A fighter who went 1-3 in the UFC and is now in Bellator.

Nate choking out a gassed manlet at 170 pounds doesn't change this fact.

I just think we as fight fans need to be realistic about the implications of Saturday's win.

Big props to Nate for helping save a card on 10 days notice. I hope he gets the title shot against RDA and earns another decent paycheck. Before getting brutally wrasslepounded for five rounds and returning to gatekeeper status.

Now let's discuss the above rationally and civilly, guys, without letting our emotions get the best of us. Thanks in advance everybody!

josh thomson is a good damn fighter that gave gil a hard time. if you think he sucks or some shit you are a foob

I'll tell you, I have not seen many people out there calling Nate the next big thing after this win. The consensus seems to be that Nate wasn't better than we all though its that Conor was worse.

Losing to Thompson is better then losing to Duffy but no matter what nate will be the guy who choked out Conor when everybody said he didn't have a chance at even getting out of the 1st round

I stopped reading when TS implied that Josh Thomson is garbage.

Sherdog = shill rankings. UFC brown-noser rankings.

Rational point: He dominated Michael Johnson in the previous fight as well. He's looking good right now. Definitely not a gate keeper.

There's no shame in being a gatekeeper in the UFC. It automatically defines one as a top 10 to top 5 fighter.

Bisping is the quintessential gatekeeper and has had a long and successful career with some great wins.

Thomson isn't garbage. He's a good fighter who, like a lot of other good fighters, didn't have a successful run in the UFC.

I'm just trying to put Nate's win over Conor into some perspective.

It seems like I've been seeing a lot of posts where someone says, in one breath, "Conor was shit! He's been exposed!" and then in the next, "Nate's ability to finish McGregor in two rounds proves Diaz is a world beater and future champ!"

This thread is a response to those contradictions.

Nate is a tough fight for anyone that chooses to stand with him, Josh had the perfect game plan and executed it. The more wrestling/grappling based fighters will always give him fits, Nate openly admitted if Benson put a little more pressure he could have finished him.

I understand what you're trying to suggest, but I just don't quite understand the thread title because Conor is now the guy that got worked over by the guy that himself got beat by the guy that then got ran out of the UFC. It doesn't solve anything.

The only truths that matter are these.
1) McGregor is a good fighter with serious holes in his game that he needs to address.
2) Nate Diaz is a better fighter than Conor.

Nate is a great fighter. he is just an easy style match up for a lot of 155rs. thats why he has so many losses on his record. but he is still a beast in my book.

It's cool to bring up this Thompson shit. Diaz got caught with a head kick, it happens.

Thompson's recent UFC record may have been 1-3, but he was a former Strikeforce champ, and peeking when they fought.

His loss to Hendo was very close, and he gave Gil a hell of a fight in their 3rd fight.

No shame in losing to Thompson, he has been relavent the for over a decade.
