Jan 2014? Khabib was just coming off a snoozer win over Pat Healy who wasn't even ranked.

Nate had just lost to RDA. I'm not sure what sense the two of them fighting at that point would have been.

No, Pat was ranked #10 when he fought Khabib and he just submitted Jim Miller. The fight wasn't a snoozer either, it was decent. Nate was #14 when he fought RDA.

Nate would've been benefiting more from fighting Khabib at that time than vice versa.

I'm pretty sure they were similarly ranked, Nate was maybe two or three spots higher than Khabib at the time

Ya maybe. I don't remember there being much of a push for that fight to happen back then. Nate went on to have a big win over Johnson and I believe Khabib beat RDA next.

Nothing really interesting about that matchup. Let's be honest: Nate should retire, Makhachev is overrated and only fighting like every 3 years.

Khabib is 2 leagues above them.

Yeah I think you'll find it's quite often the humble respect stuff that's fake.

It actually takes guts to talk shit to a guy you're going to fight, it heaps extra pressure on the shit talker, coz the humiliation of a loss would burn 10x hotter after talking a bunch of shit, that's the reason most guys don't have the balls to wild out even though it's proven to earn you more money throughout your career.
