BJJ - 2.5 Hours

1 Hour of nogi & 1.5 hours of gi. Back is still a little stiff, but grappling today felt pretty good. Still moving well, recovering guard well, etc. Good stuff!

Went bowling last night with the family, lots of fun. But my back is not feeling good at all this morning. I was planning on throwing practice today, but that's probably a really bad idea. Bummed about that, its been a couple of weeks since I've been able to throw. Gonna settle for a long dog walk instead. Iced my back & took some Motrin this morning, hopefully it settles down soon - I also skipped deadlifting this past week due to my back.

Been trying to rest my back & stretch for the last 1.5 weeks. Decided to go back & give jiu-jitsu a try today & it went pretty well. Did 1 hour of no gi, got to roll with a pro fighter - that was pretty cool. The guy was in much better shape than me, but I held my own & pushed him a bit, at least until I got tired.

1 Hour Stand up paddleboarding in Huntington Harbor this morning, then a little workout at the gym this afternoon. Back is feeling 100% - for some reason, it just stopped hurting middle of the day yesterday. No clue why. I'm stil heavier than I would like. Also no clue why. Drinking a beer as I write this.

Just got back from 4 fun-filled days with the family on Santa Catalina Island!

Looks lovely! I didn't realize that there were nice islands off the coast of California.

ITs a nice place to visit - we had a nice, relaxing time. There are several Channel Islands off the coast of Southern Cal, Catalina is the only one with a town & permanent residents. The others are nature preserves. The town is called Avalon, there used to be a casino there, it was kind of a playground for the rich & famous back in the 1920's. It also used to be privately owned by the Wrigley family. Another fun fact is that there are buffalo on the island!

Had family in town for the last 3 weeks so it was really tough to get to the gym or workout at all. Did get some hiking & stuff in, which I guess is better than nothing. Got back in the weight room today:

Rows & BB Curls 3x12

Press was hard today. Harder than it should have been, shoulders just felt really stiff, never loosened up. Might need to start doing shoulder mobility stuff. Also, elbow is still not right, even with all the rest & not benching. Might have to get serious about trying to rehab this stupid thing. Voodoo Floss doesn't do jack.

Spent the day at the beach on Saturday & had a bonfire on the beach Saturday night. Lots of fun:

BJJ, no gi - 1 Hour

Friday is open mat day, so 1 hour of sparring - it was really tough. Some good guys were there. Somehow I think I bruised my liver. Probably going to get some mai tais downtown tonight to make sure it still works.

2.5 Hours beach volleyball + about a 10 mile bike ride.

Haven't played volleyball in a while, but it felt good to get out & move around. Might start doing this more often.

Ran electrical wiring to my barbecue island over the weekend. Had a slight wiring issue, but got it fixed last night. Pretty happy with the way everything came out, and now I have power inside the island & on the top, behind the grill. The wiring on top is for the rotisserie, inside is for lights in the grill. So....I ordered a new grill last night, getting installed next Friday. I will be grilling Labor Day weekend. STOKED.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

1.5 Hours of grappling last night. First time in a couple of weeks, but I felt pretty good. Back didn't hurt. I'm definitely out of shape - amazing how quick that happens. WE worked on some basic butterfly guard, then 30 minutes of grappling. I was moving slow, thinking too much instead of reacting. Need to get in there more often for sure. Hopefully I can stay healthy.

This weekend I'd like to go throw on Sunday, but we have tickets to the Huntington Beach Beer Festival this weekend, so may not make it. Ventura Highland Games is 2 months away, I really need to start squeezing in some throwing.
