Yep, Machida looks the best he ever has, IMO - I also think he'll beat Mousasi. Also, Rafael Dos Anjos is HUGE for a 155er. He has Nurmagomedov next....should be a sick fight.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Worked a nice little arm bar counter from closed guard today. Then lots of specific training with open guard. We did 5 minutes with the bottom guy stalling in an open guard while the top guy tries to pass. Then 5 minutes with the top guy stalling while the bottom guy tries to sweep or submit from open guard. Then 5 minutes regular open guard tining where the top guy is trying to pass, bottom guy is trying to sweep our submit. I got to work with a purple belt who has a pretty good open guard, so that was a good opportunity for me to learn some stuff today. Afterwards, I sparred two 7-minute sessions with Ricardo, the 290 lb black belt instructor. Fixed a couple of details on my guard passing, really had a nice training session today - feel like I learned a lot.

BJJ - 1 Hour

Worked on a couple of tripod sweeps today in Fernando's class, and then Ricardo showed up. So I got to roll with 2 different blackbelts during sparring. Good times. I'm plugging lots of holes in my game right now - mental attitude is good, I'm learning.

I had a similar problem with figuring out how hard to roll. I now try to roll hard all the time.

If my partner is really good, I will go hard at trying to keep him from advancing positions. If there new or not good, I will "flow"

I'm doing much better with that - that challenge for me is that at 6-2, 220 I'm one of the larger guys & I'm a purple belt. If I go 100% against a 140 pound white belt then I'm an asshole :)

But doing the tournament made me really focus in on my training, seriously it helped a ton. Right now I'm playing only open guard from bottom & looking for sweeps - regardless of who I'm rolling with. From the top, I'm advancing to mount before attempting any subs. limiting myself like this is plugging a lot of holes in my game & opening up the rolling sessions.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Reviewed a couple of basic sweeps from closed guard - scissor sweep & sit up sweep. Got some nice Rickson details on the sit-up sweep. Lots of rolling today, I played open guard & moved, had 3 rounds with a brown belt, did really well, mounted him once, and only got subbed once in 3 rounds. We were rolling pretty technical though, not realy going balls out.

EDIT: I also thought I'd post a pic from this weekend. Had an awesome room at the Waterfront Hilton in HB. Even though the hotel is only 10 minutes from my house, it was nice to get away for a night:

I've had something pinched in my neck for the past 3 days or so. It didn't bother me at all at jiujitsu this morning, but I couldn't deadlift or squat without pain. So I decided to do my upper body workout for this week instead. Overhead press has really fallen offing the last year. I only got 1 rep at 155 - which is terrible. About a year ago I pressed 205. Everything pretty much hurt today & I was having to stand in line to do pull-ups or dips, so I just said fuck it & left. I'm gonna have a beer & look at some porn.
 
That's surprising that you can't squat or DL with a hurt neck but can put weight overhead.
 
Beer and porn is a solid recovery strategy.

Part of me is disappointed that you didn't log the kind of porn. Part of me thinks that you might have been better not to get into it, as talking about genres opens up the possibility of MIDMO introducing forms of porn we don't really want to think about.

Although now I have gone and mentioned it, he's probably going to do it anyway.

I don't even know how I hurt it - it just started hurting on Friday. Thought maybe I slept wrong, but it's still there...

Yes. This is the type of expert analysis that I've come to expect from you, Jaunty. I don't recall the exact type since it was earlier in the day, but I'm pretty sure it had to do with asses, since I'm a big fan of squatting.
