I think he got legit brain damage off that one KO. Sergey hurt him. Pudgy MW vs big HW.

To be fair back then Sergei was I think sub 240;bs so he wasn't a massive HW but he was definitely a true HW, would have needed a big cut for him to ever fight at LHW.

I feel part of the issue was though that the Pride HW division back then was very technically sound towards the top and indeed Sergei was also an exellent grappler at that stage.

I had never heard that before, I thought he was from Australia (not sure if that’s true or not), I remember him getting chinny and getting knocked out regularly. I saw him on Bully Beatdown when the bully clipped him and buckled him. He recovered and won his match, but there was a moment when I thought he might lose.
