RBR Munguia vs Surace Dec.14Th ESPN+

Hopefully! What I’m just saying is that tonight’s shocker should be considered as it is : boxing’s unpredictability at its peak.

As far as I’m concerned all 3 guys giving a good account of themselves would be good enough. I don’t forget what my domestic boxing scene looks like, and it’s not a pretty sight.

Somehow if a bunch of French kids get (kind of) hyped up by this instead of Paul vs Tyson or UFC 753 it’s already a big W in my book. Surace comes from a French boxing stronghold down south - as weak as it is - and he’s the kind of character that parents could like. Maybe he’ll get a few youngsters to try a few boxing lessons.
True. Mexico would definitely be the clear favorite but I think some of those French fighters could still make it interesting potentially. Either way we get to see some of the top SMWs fighting each other. It's a win-win situation regardless of which nation comes out on top.

Yeah. It's intriguing and as far as I'm aware we've never seen a national rivalry in pro boxing between Mexico & France. I even checked the historical results of duals in amateur boxing and it hasn't happened there. We've never seen this rivalry before in the sport.

Dual matches results
Its definitely brewing.
Remember earlier this year Zurdo Ramirez beat Arsen Goulamirian for his World Title.
Arsen was born in Armenia but fights out of France.
So it's getting there.

The thing is, so much shit happened back in these days that French people greatly overlook what Cinco de Mayo was about, while it certainly has a deep meaning in Mexico. It’s about as asymmetrical as the current state of boxing in both countries. So an actual rivalry is a long shot IMO. In the meantime the tradition of Mexican boxers pooping the party in the UK seems to be growing on British fans.

Marketingwise Arsen wasn’t a big household name - which was a pity considering he held our only world title for a while. He could sell tickets in Marseilles - strong Armenian community - but was hardly mentioned in national news. TBH he was a decent Euro level boxer but his resume is pretty weak and his career was handled poorly. We all saw the skills gap between him and Zurdo.

Asymmetrical is right. Yeah, Canelo alone has beaten lots of British fighters on behalf of Mexico. So has Usyk. If Fury can manage to beat Usyk in the rematch then it'd give the Brits some hope but until then Mexican & Ukrainian boxers have really done a number on them in recent years.

Munguia wasnt ever really that good, i was surprised he actually went the distance with Canelo.
but maybe thats due to Canelo not putting his foot on the gas.

either way congrats to Surace, he's unlocked a new chapter of his career.

The kid was all about the huge opportunity this was for him. He didn’t blast doubters online, he basically agreed with everyone pointing out how tough a challenge this was, just repeating how motivated he was.

What I was hoping for him was getting stopped late after a gritty performance that would make him a decent European contender for a while.

Munguia was never a defensive wizard and I’ve always thought someone would get to break this open mouth of his. I just didn’t believe it would be this kid from the small town where my wife’s grandparents had their home.

This is incredible.
Awesome ! That must feel damn good!

Whew that was a nice shot, Surace did not crack under pressure, that KD he suffered could have unraveled him, but nope, a career has been made. Need to come back and watch this again the whole way through, that was the most satisfying KO since Fundora who I now like btw

Nothing very personal. We’ve talked via DM on Instagram. He reads my posts and he’s very friendly. The fact that I know his neighborhood kind of helped. Of course he’ll be harder to reach from now on but I won’t mind. He deserves to enjoy his improved status while it lasts.

Hopefully he wins the Canelo lottery lol

Speaking of French fighters at 168, Kevin Lele Sadjo beat Argentinian Diego Gabriel Chaves by KO in the 4th round yesterday.

Canelo couldn't finish his last opponent, or the opponent before that, or the opponent before that, or the opponent before that, or the opponent before that. All of them were supposed to be easy wins.

5 cherry picks in a row, 0 finishes. Theres's no gas to put his foot on. He just sucks.

GGG's chin is made of diamond mixed with unobtanium so i dont fault Canelo for not being able to stop him
he shouldve finished Munguia, Berlanga and Ryder. the fact that he didnt shows he's getting old in ring years. he takes exactly as much risk as necessary to win.

Golovkin was 40 years old and a +400 underdog. And let’s not forget Charlo who literally fights at 154. There’s no excuses for such crappy performances.

GGG's never been hurt to the chin ever. i dont think its possible. i believe he is retiring or retired though so we will possibly never know. but i hope he takes one last farewell bout.

yeah Charlo was random as hell. what ticked me off is that Jermell Charlo himself said he'd be pushing forward trying to get to Canelo but he just kind of ran the whole fight. especially after Canelo knocked him down in the 7th.
for his next defense, i think Canelo should fight Mbilli or Pacheco. Scull is pretty unknown and didnt dominantly win his belt. i wouldve preferred Morrell or Benavidez but theyre fighting each other. taking on and stopping Mbilli or Pacheco would give Canelo some credibility.
but with our luck he'll fight Jermall Charlo.

Something like this would happen to ole Mungia. Inconsistent mfer.
