Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

KC Hongthong and team quest are in the same area. 5/10 mins bike ride away from each other. They all have their good and bad points, recommend trying all 3 if you can. Santai has recently upgraded their gym, looking really good, you have to book in advance, shoot them an email.
IMO the reputation/reviews of the gym are secondary to finding a trainer you click with.
If you have enough time just gym hop, it's more fun and you will see more of chiang mai.
Accomodation is very cheap, 4000b a month will get you very comfortable place. Ask about water and electric before hand.

All these gyms are used to beginners, tell them before hand and tell them you want to learn technique as a priority.

Thanks guys! i decided to go with Santai as being away from town will help me focus and i would like to really focus on training.

Spent some days at Hongthong, very dedicated trainers, can only recommend.

Did some seminars with Berklerk outside of Thailand, i think his gym is still in Chiang Mai? He

Only one week to go then i will be training at Sinbi for 2 months, anyone else that will be there?

Also you got any suggestions for places to eat, places to go, things to do nearby?

How is the road to Kata/Karon? im thinking about renting a scooter but i dont want to die, i Heard that the traffic can be horrible.

Places to eat are everywhere. Do yourself a favor and eat with the Thai's. Don't waste your money at farang restaurants. I like Lao Inter the best. It's a bit past Fight Lab on the same side of the road. I mostly eat grilled chicken, papaya salad, and sticky rice everyday.

Traffic is not bad at all. I wouldn't even consider it traffic. lol

The road to Kata over the hill is ... hilly. lol, make sure your motorbike has good brakes. Be careful after midnight. I was nearly kicked off my motorbike a few years ago by a Thai bandit. Luckily I saw him coasting up behind me and slammed on my breaks before he could kick the back of my bike. (Think Tom Cruise in Top Gun)

A young swedish girl was kicked off her bike this summer on Kata hill. Pretty sure very bad things happened to her. It isn't uncommon at all.

Not trying to scare you, but Thailand is a developing country. People get hurt really bad very easy without a second thought.

Also, always watch for the Thai police at the intersections and in front of Sinbi. They will try to nail you for not having a license. Just stop as soon as you see them and turn around. They are too lazy to chase you. Fuck paying 500 baht into their karaoke fund.

Thanks for an great answer! Also, is it ok to bring suppliments into Thailand without any complications? So they wont stop me at the airport and goding thru my bag for omega-3 pills and proteinpowder?

If they are in the original sealed container, it will be fine.

I forgot another importen question, is there any place nearby thats going to show UFC sweden this saturday?

These Thai gyms are really ripping off the foreigners

I converted their monthly training cost to GBP and it was much much more expensive than training over here

Consider the living cost in Thailand
, they'remaking a ffortune

Too bad , I want to go someday after my shoulder heals ( bad blocking technique to a middle kick by me xD ) but this kind of turn me down...
I was offered a job in Malasya, is Muay Thai good over there?

Do you get a professional pad holder back at home for about 10-15USD at home?
Do you get to clinch and spar with stadium ranked fighters at home? Considering the amount new things you learn the value-price ratio is pretty good.

Compare the quality of training you get and come back for further discussion.

Well World Champions means nothing in most cases.
Liam Harisson is a legit guy though. But he just ducked Kongsak, a multiple lumpini champion. :P

I agree training in Thailand FULLtime takes commitment in every way. It is not cheap. But worth every penny and the value you get is huge if you have the right attitude and trainers.

i've been questioning the same thing lately like why did I pick Thailand to just go and train when I have great striking coaches here in New York.

I'll never know unless I go so i'll be in Bangkok for 3 weeks in December - i'm thinking the main advantages of training in Thailand vs USA will be my free schedule and perhaps a forced mindset on training.

Did Liam Harrison just past away last week? I think I saw somethings posted on my facebook feed...

Anyway I'm about to board..heading to Kok Samui again tonight to train at WMC for another month :)
