Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

How is the political climate out there? I know civil unrest comes and goes, but it seems the government made it a point to at least say to take more precaution than usual. I was thinking of heading out there in November.

^I presume things would have settled down by then. At the moment a military coup has just happened and there is a night time curfew. I guess if all you want to do is train then this probably removes all distractions so could be a good thing in a way

I know that the US embassy just stopped my friend from entering Thailand from the Philippines last week because of all that's going on.

Even no problems going there right now, don

I would assume if youre in the Phuket area and stay away from Bangkok you should be fine. But who knows. It definitely seems to be more serious right now than it has been the last months. And we were told quiet often not to leave the house at night those months nonetheless.

Can anyone tell me how safe it is in Thailand/Phuket. Also what are the reviews on swicks mma club

its still one of the most safe country you can go to.. no problem

I realise that my last question may seem a bit off. I have no idea if the people posting on hear are actually in Phuket. I am waiting on a job and can't risk being out of contact or not being able to get back to Australia when needed. Any in depth info would be appreciated

cheers mate. is it true there is no internet there at the moment?

Not true at all. Internet works just as normal. The only change is that the thai TV channels are down. So no one can watch bad thai soap opera.

Also: 7 eleven and most other stores closes at 22:00. But i think most bars and nighclubs are still open like always. I dont go out and drink.. so i would not care anyway.

The night life scene holds no interest at all. I'm looking for somewhere that's cheaper to live than Perth that has the added benefit of getting me training again.
While not training for a long time I am after somewhere which caters for fighters and is very hard. I tried Phuket top team a couple of years ago on a spur of the moment decision but thought to try the ATT branch there this time.

mma though I would be doing some Muay thai as well

I have trained Muay Thai for the last 3 years going to tranisition into bjj/mma . Muay Thai teaches solid stand up skills that are vital in combat sports IMO a good starting for base striking if your interested in a mma path

I haven't trained in a formal sense for 7 years but have still kept myself in good shape and the few times I have tested myself with a roll or some striking I haven't embarrassed myself.

I hear what you're saying but for me if I was to compete again it would be more of a novelty than the crusade of a 20yr old. I like the intensity of fighter training and to be honest I find mma more honest than boxing/kickboxing though I enjoy boxing as well.

I'm training in Khon Kaen at the moment. Pajonpai gym. 4000 baht a month. Really chill place with some nice lakes to jog around. Cheap prices for most things. Hotels/Apartments for 450baht a night or 3500-4000 a month where I am at.

Could also hit up some other regional gyms in places like Burriam, Kanchanaburi, etc.

I'm gonna head out to Kaolkai's gym later this week.
