Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

any other good stores while im in Bangkok besides action zone? they didnt have alot of cool shit I want pads, headgear etc...Fairtex bangplee looks like a palace Ill prolly cab it out there any others?

The Boon store? Should be directions on how to get there somewhere on here.

Not sure. Sorry. I've never been to Samui, just trained with Son a few times while he was at Sinbi and have watched him build and open this gym via Facebook.

I'll ask around when I'm there. I trained at Sinbi mid 2011 for 10days and don't think I've met him. By memory there was a young thai fighter named Son, but that can't be him?? So you got any info on Son, like how good he is... fights/belts won??

Definitely not the same Son as this Son is a bit older. Maybe late 20s or early 30s? I don't know what kind of titles he's held, but I've trained with him and he's a good trainer. I've also seen him fight some Thais over at Bangla a couple of times and he was good, but obviously this was in the twilight of his career. Though he did head back to Bangkok after that to coach and also took some more fights.

Thanks alot man, definitely will look into it...

I'm heading over specifically FOR Songkran. I've never been.

Getting to the Boon shop is easy. Ryukyu wrote something up a while back, but I can't find it. But take the SkyTrain to On Nut. Head to the corner of Suk Soi 81 and there's a motorcycle taxi there. Tell them where you want to go. I've done it probably half a dozen times, and they've always known where the Boon shop was. It costs like 10 baht. It's a tiny store. When you're done, you may have to stand around for a few minutes before an empty motorcycle taxi passes by.

There were a bunch of shops by Lumpinee, but I don't know if they followed the stadium or stayed there or what. There are other shops surrounding ActionZone. That general area is a sporting goods district. Some of them only sell Twins, etc., so you may not find the brand you're looking for.

anybody know if training is affected during Songkran New Year holidays?
Is Songkran this year from April 13 to April 16? I will try to avoid this period.

1-2 days off training at most IIRC, but the bigger issue is supplies -- a lot of the manufacturers take time off so it's wise to preorder what you want, especially if it's a more uncommon style or size.

Also, the old Lumpinee shops are all gone (although Top King is still nearby; moved down the block and around the corner).

well you better keep your phone and electronics in a ziplock bag ;) and i was just worried if the stores will be closed, and the trainers will not be around during the holidays. it was horrible for me during the chinese new year's holidays here in taipei, everything was closed, i had all this free time and no gyms were open.

I'm just going to keep them at my hotel. The phone is brand new, so I'm not even going to tempt fate.

hey man you going to do training while you are there? i am going towards the end of April, 10 days in Sitsonpeenong. April is supposed to be super hot, damn i hope i can handle it.

i mean the idea of a trip to Thailand just formed in my head a while back and I was tentative due to the situation in BKK but now that is over and I just didn't want to wait no more haha.

I probably won't spend too much time training in Bangkok as I'll only be there a handful of days before and after my time in Phuket. I'll be staying in the Sukhumvit area and I'll probably swing by Chacrit. Sitsongpeenong is on my list, but I probably won't make it this trip.

Let me know if you want to check out 96 Penang.

LOL, you mention Smith and Nagbe but not Petboonchu? :icon_chee

Anyway, here's the map to F.A. Group Gym:

It's near Chatuchak Park and Channel 7

And here's their FB page; management is pretty active on FB so you can get your questions answered there.

Is Fa Group flooded with Farangs? Since Petboonchu is on his winning streak..

Judging from recent gym photos, it is indeed getting more popular with farang, although it's not quite Jocky Gym yet LOL. Maybe it will cause a new wave of clinch revelation that will be carried back to the West LOL.

I will be staying from a friday to monday midday. Any gyms which offer sunday privat training? I am eager to go to meenayothin
