Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

wtf man. you need to train when you are in Thailand. :)

That's why I signed up with Sinbi, and it was a great choice because there were a lot of hot girls to hang out with. Phuket isn't so bad, I actually liked it because there is something for everyone. I like Chiang Mai too, much better place to go shopping.

I'm pretty much done training muay thai right now, I'm trying to take tours and get in everything Chiang Mai has to offer.

have fun.

glad that you have had a great trip. and thanks for all the updates

Thanks guys!

Just arrived in Bangkok, staying at S Sukumvit suites. Gonna go shopping and get some communal gear for the gym so the poor people can use it. By poor people I mean people who spend lots of money on raves, alcohol, women, and supplements.

I didn't train in Chiang Mai, but I liked it. I stayed at the Imm Hotel by the Tha Phae Gate with a McDonalds underneath. The tuk tuk taxis take you everywhere for cheap and the place isn't super scammy. Hotels/hostels are really cheap too, great for the backpacker crowd. Definitely book lots of tours there as most of the good places are outside of the city. I took a trip to the night safari (800 baht but you get to feed deers and giraffes), chiang rai (white temple and a golden triangle boat ride which was badass and we stopped in laos without passports for 30 baht), 2 day trekking (hot european chicks and our tour guide ping pong was extremely obscene and it was fucking hilarious), doi suthep (boring temple), and the tiger kingdom (they aren't sedated but you get a personal bodyguard to distract the tigers while you get pictures). You can also buy a lot of good stuff at the night bazaar. Would definitely visit Chiang Mai again, but dunno if I would train there. Wouldn't mind visiting Pai too.

They say Chiang Mai is pretty clean, but I've had some massage places on the street south of Tha Phae Gate offer me handjobs after the massage.

Hey guys, I recently lost my job and am thinking of going to Thailand to train for 6 months. Up to this point most of my research was pointing me towards Santai and I'm still considering it, but my boxing coach wants me to check out Sangtiennoi's gym.

Does anyone have any info on his gym? Anyone trained there? I don't think he has a website; he's no longer at Baan. Does anyone know anything about his gym / have first hand info? Anything would be helpful.

I will also accept first hand experience with Santai, though I've already read a lot of reviews. Does anyone know if any Thais actually train / fight there? Thanks guys.

Try talking to Phaiym here on the boards. His gym is well-connected with Sangtiennoi.

Back home now. I hit action zone in bangkok and their merchandise was limited so I ended stocking up at twins in lumpini. Siam Paragon was nice, but discovery had some cooler shops.

Training at Sinbi was the best experience I've had in all my travels an I can say that Thailand is a place I would return to again, plus it's not too far a journey.

Hi guys - first post! looking for some advice...

I am hoping to go to Phuket this December for some training; I've been having personal training sessions for a few months now and really looking to get a good grounding in MT.

I had originally decided on Phuket top team, as they have also got a grappling programme and do cheap accomodation; now a friend is coming with me, which is good financially but he isn't really interested in MT. I've heard PTT is quite out of the way, so that's out of the window now, as my mate will get a bit bored if i'm training twice a day and he has nowhere to go!

Basically what I'm after is a good camp for a novice, near a good boozing and whoring location and beaches for my buddy.

any ideas from anyone greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the new MFCC gym in Patong would be a good fit for what you're looking for.

MFCC Gym

It's right on the beach, nice facility, some good trainers there and they have a grappling program in addition to Muay Thai.

No shortage of booze and hookers in Patong to keep your buddy entertained as well.

A friend of mine trains at Maximum (MFCC mentioned above) and he likes it. He is a serious dude with about 15 fights in Thailand (a lot for a farang). Right by the beach in Patong which is the nightlife spot for Phuket. His only complaint is that it is as hot as fuck in the MT section of the gym.

If you want to stick around Patong, you can also go to Patong Stadium Gym (right in the city) or Patong Boxing Gym (where I train - 10 minute motorbike ride from central Patong).

There is also a new gym that is just opening right by Jungceylon (right in the middle of Patong). I don't know much about it other then it is supposed to be "traditional Thai" and "don't expect a website". To find it, go to Fight HQ (which is the best place IMO for MT supplies in the area anyway) and the new (unaffiliated) gym is 50 metres away.

Have fun

Excellent! Thanks for this guys. If my mate confirms then Maximum looks like the winner, if not then probably Phuket Top Team.

Another query - I have found a few posts advising against booking accommodation through a gym, as it's expensive; however, when I look at hostels etc. I can't find anywhere nearly as well priced!? I've also been advised to find accommodation out there, but I have terrible financial planning, so would rather get everything priced up in advance....

Where did you hear that? That only applies if you book the expensive single room at Sinbi. Gym accomodation is very well priced and cheaper than hotels even though they aren't as nice. I booked a shared room at Sinbi for 21,000 baht including one month training. So accomodation comes out to be about 11,000 baht or $353 a month.

I would email the gym if they have accomodations if it's not on the website already. If not, book a hotel on Agoda.com, if you're lucky you can get one for $20 a night or less since it's Thailand.

I take no credit for these video. Just came upon it while bored on the tubes. For anyone interested in kaewsamrit here's a fairly recent video in good quality of a typical day there.

Speaking of kaewsamrit. Anyone heard anything about them in terms of Thai boxers? I know there are a few foreigners making their name from kaewsamrit, but i have not heard about many Thais in the big stadiums repping that name as of recent. I'm not sure how "hot" of a topic kaewsamrit is now compared to when everyone was raving about it 3-4 years ago. I'm sure it's still a quality gym though.

^to add to this, Kaewsamrit, like Chuwattana, is a boxing "aware" camp from what I hear from others. They include specific boxing mitt rounds after thai pad rounds.

I can attest to chuwattana camp being more boxing heavy than most other thai camps because I stayed there a few years ago, lamsongkram left and the trainers have long since changed, but there are still western style boxers there. Jomthong is a monster at muay Thai as well as boxing.

Whoever said chuwattana had no technique must have been a lazy student, or maybe annoying and people avoided him. I got loads of valuable knowledge from the trainers during my stay, if they like you they teach you some slick tricks and tactics. Chuwattana is a very physical camp, but it's also very technical.

Since we've talked about a couple schools that have extra punch training, anyone know some heavy clinch camps?

I know lookprabat and keatkhamtorn are clinch camps all the way. Any others?

FA Group and Rachanon Gym, I believe. Would love first-hand confirmation from anyone that knows though.
