Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

I'm planning my first trip for next year. I'm complete noob.
I'll be staying 4 weeks and want to hit the ground running.
In preperation I'll be doing 5km, 100 press ups, 200 situps daily in the weeks leading up to the trip. Does that sound good? Anything else I should include?

Also, do they use knuckle press ups or open hand?

Hey guys, I'll be in Thailand for a month to train in January and I'm looking for a beginner-friendly gym in Bangkok. When I say beginner-friendly I mean that they don't just put the newbs in a corner and let them kick the bag, but that there's a good deal of instruction and technical training. I'm not looking for fitness/losing weight, I want to learn as quickly as possible. I'm also thinking about doing some privates.

I was going to go to Watcharachai but apparently it changed owners and is now closed?

Phil, werent you at Tiger Muay Thai? what happened with that?

btw, the Dave Menne KO is still legendary to this day.

What would y'all say is the best camp if my goal is maximizing fat loss? I've got it down to Kombat Fitness in Pattaya vs TTC in Phuket. KF has a specific weight loss program which looks solid, although the all inclusive price (weight loss program schedule/4-5 sessions per day, single in-camp AC room, and all 3 daily meals at in camp restaurant) they quoted me for 33 days seems high, 80000 baht.

I'm a total martial arts newbie btw, 36yo American male, need to lose about 25 lbs.

Thoughts? Thanks a lot!

4-5 Sessions a day? lol. I think that's a little overkill especially if your goal is just fat loss. I'm pretty sure if you do both sessions a day you'll have a lot of fat loss. Also don't book the 3 daily meals at the camp, there are always a lot of healthy places to eat around the camps for a lot cheaper. 80,000 baht is ridonkulous.

LOL @ 80,000 baht for one month. You can do Chaing Mai for a month for about 18,000.

Hello fellas.

Does anybody know about the gym at Koh Yao Noi (Is this the name?) and its head trainer, Hlukhin Wassantasit?

- Eminent Air is good

- Sitsongpeenong would be good if you can train with the Thai's for clinching and sparring (last I heard the foreigners were training at 2pm?)

- Elite Boxing usually has some bigger, high level foreigners training there

There's a gym that I've been training at for the last couple months also that focuses a lot of time on clinching. Multiple champions there and they're really helpful. I'm usually the only foreigner training there but send me a PM if you want some info on it.

Fight Passport Thanks for the reply.

Im going to head to Chang Mi after my fight on NYE to train at team quest.

Ill prob drop in at Tiger see a few friends down the road.

Its only a week training vacation.

then after my next ONE FC fight and possible before it Im going to get some training in Thailand.

Im thinking that will be March.

Thanks Im going after i fight on new years

If you're just going there for a week to check out the city and teach a seminar, that's alright. You'll be the most advanced guy there so it's not exactly a good learning environment for you though.
I've been there and Team Quest isn't what you'd think it is. It's a franchise gym remember and the name is for sale.
For MMA, Phuket Top Team and Tiger have the best programs by far and for Muay Thai, go to Bangkok and train with the active champs (Petchyindee just won the gym of the year award and you could spar and clinch with all the fighters there).
Good BJJ schools in Bangkok too. Just info for your next trip.

What would you say about Team Quest then?

I'd say that it's silly for people to fly all the way to Thailand to train in a gym like that.

You'd be flying around the world, to the homeland of Muay Thai, to train at a franchise gym from the States? Do people think they're actually going to be training with Dan Henderson there? I'm pretty sure the owner of the gym hasn't even had a fight before.

For Muay Thai, go to the gyms that actually produce the top Thai fighters.
For MMA, go to the gyms that have the most experienced coaches and training partners.

Team Quest Thailand falls into neither category.

Does anyone have a review or anything to say about Sitsongpeenong? I was considering going there mid next year.

Cant go wrong with Sitsongpeenong. Monlit the headtrainer won several Trainer of the Year awards , its a nice looking gym and have some of my favorite fighters.

Sitsongpeenong is legit. They train really hard there. It's a serious gym.
Right by Rama 9 park and in a quiet area of Bangkok so nice place to run too.
Is Bovy there permanently now?

well then i think i know where i'm going this year to train! :D
sitsongpeenong it is!
