Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

What do you guys think of my plan:

2 months (maybe 2.5) stay in Thailand

First 3 weeks to 1 month, go to Sinbi. Work on improving my technique and fitness without getting thrown into deep waters at a "hardcore" Bangkok gym where I might end up puking the first day and have to take a few days off anyway from all that grueling training (is this common?). I figured Sinbi would be a great place to work on my tech, get acquainted with the weather and everything else.

Once my body adapts, I will move to Bangkok for a more "hardcore" gym and spend the rest of my time there, hopefully drastically improving my conditioning and everything else, toughness, fighting ability, technique, etc.

Thanks for the reply guys!

Awesome, ill make a point of coming to check it out! No chang though, got an allergy to alcohol ill be throwing up for 8 hours straight haha :) Whats it like around sinbi? much to do? whats the training and accom like etc? cheers buddy

The training regimen isn't all that different from any other gym, but there are some very useful drills and sparring sessions tacked onto each session. I wouldn't bother staying at the gym as it's a bit overpriced. There're plenty of hotels and guest houses in the immediate area, and if you're comfortable on a moped, most are within a 2-5 minute drive.

Now would be a great time to go, though, as it's really not all that crowded. At least the morning sessions aren't. So you get plenty of attention. Look for the bald and tattooed American dude, about 150 pounds. Come say hi.

What are some other great gyms in Phuket that you guys would recommend besides Sinbi?

I am a dirt poor college student and already gonna break my bank for plane tickets, so cheap = good for me!!!

That is, I don't mind spending $$$ on good training though.

But if there is some place comparable and is really good for technique especially then I would definitely be open.

Just spent a couple of days in Phuket with Gotobread. Had a great time and Sinbi is a fantastic gym, I highly recommend it. If you can, stay for a longer period of time than I did, it takes some time to get rid of the jet lag and get used to the heat.

unless your a pro fighter you don't really need to go to a gym like that in bkk. You can't get good training at other gyms

Hey people, great thread

gotobread yo ustill out there i arrive on 10th nov in phuket was intending to reach sinbi, need to find accomodation when i get there.

im surprised for bkk no one has mentioned jitti. i was a bit lonely there to b honest as being alone in bkk is kinda shiz lol, but the training was good and we worked hard, i just wish we did more clinching. anyways, the time i was there the swedish national team came in for the amateur thai champs and they were pretty awesome.

so, +1 for JITTI in bangers, this time im heading to phuket tho...

I've mentioned Jitti before in other threads, though I haven't participated much in this one. I liked it a lot and I would definitely train there again.

I am currently still at Sinbi, though I won't be by the time you get here. But as far as accommodation goes, what are you looking for and how much are you looking to spend? I know this general area like the back of my hand at this point and I've probably stayed at ten different guest houses/hotels. I'm sure I can be of some help.

Booked my flight for the 21th Nov - 21th Dec. I will most likely go to Chay Yai gym in Chiang mai. Anyone there from Sherdog or that has been to the gym before? Is it a good choice (only done Thaiboxing for 8 months)? Any other stuff I should have in mind while going there to train?

GREAT THREAD!! Very informative

I believe I have read everyone's post here, and if this topic was covered before forgive me for missing it.

I'm headed for Koh Samui in January for roughly 3wks where my friend (trained before in Thailand) is telling me about the training at the WMC gym. From what I've been reading on the other forums, the Pinyo gym would be a better choice. More modern, spaceous, good trainers. Whereas WMC is popular cause the trainers were from Asia Contender but the gym is older and crowded.

So question is.. from anybodies personal experience which gym?

I have been training and fighting amateur for a while so I'm after a gym that would make my stand up better..

I was there and loved it, but that was three years ago now so the trainers have changed. Back then they had a BJJ brown belt.

I, like the poster above me, am looking into Pinyo. The facilities looked good. This time I want to go to Thailand be right on the beach even if it costs more. I think the only downside about Pinyo is there is no MMA or grappling program. Does anyone know a gym right on a beach with good Muay Thai and grappling?

Yeah but I asked around and nobody was sure whether they got a new MMA trainer after their last one left. If you find out, let me know.

I'm still leaning toward Pinyo because their accommodation is right on the beach and if I'm in Thailand I might as well train MT.

Edit: I emailed them and they said their MMA trainer will be back at SP again beginning in December. His name is Daniel Palmred, I can't seem to find his credentials online like fights or BJJ belt level. Also SP is all booked up for accommodation this winter but there's always outside accommodation.

I saw golden glory had a camp in Thailand, does any one have any info on it?

Anyone know a thai gym which teaches great boxing? Maybe a bit dutch style?

Well most Thai Camps focus more on the traditional thai techniqs you mentioned.. I am looking for a thai camp which focuses heavily on western boxing.

Hi, I'm 17 and a martial artist. I've always been into muay thai and so has a friend of mine. We are considering taking a 1 month trip to thai land this summer to train. We have the resources but not the knowledge. Is there anything we should know about the culture there and one of my bigger questions is what do we do when we get there? I do not speak thai, how will we get to our destination or communicate at all? Is there any English speakers there? Should we bring an adult with us? Just give me some advice please. :)
