Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Hey Cali, thanks for all the great info.

I have a question as I am looking to go to Thailand sometimes. How good were you guys when you went? I trained in an MMA gym last summer and hasn't done anything except BJJ since then and I think my stand up skills is minimal if not none. Should that factor into where I train?

When I first went I had two years of training but it was not consistent and it was not the best training. It came from my in-laws that used to fight in Laos and Thailand many years ago. I was a huge MMA fan myself back then hence the name cali_chute_boxe. I knew about basic footwork, turning my hips into my kicks, and some novice parrying. I learned about distance, timing, and clinching there. You don't have to be the best or even close to it get good training. I would suggest picking a gym though that wants to see you grow as a fighter and that will take care of you. I've done my research and chose Keatkhamtorn cause there is nothing but good reports coming out of it. Not to mention they have produced couple Lumpinee champions.

yo cali, i think myself, my frined and jeff are gonna head out to lumpinee on friday the 2nd. if not im sure we will all meet up somewhere. My friend and i have decided on heading out to Ubon and Training at Legacy with Ole Laursen. Ive heard great things, the pricing is great and i can get my grappling fix whenever i need it. Hope to see you man.

Lumpinee on friday night sounds good to me. I'll send you my Thai cell number when I get a SIM card or just check your PM's on here.

I would also say a big thank you to cali_chute_boxe and everyone else contributing in this and every other thread MuayThai and Thailand.

Keep the information coming, thanks.

Most gyms in Phuket are around 10,000 baht a month. They don't include the cost of accommodation or food usually since different people have different tastes.

Do you mean Looktaveechai? I've heard about the place and read about it but don't know of anyone that has been there.

yeah, exactly, not very much to find about. have to stay in central bkk and like to stay in some familiar gym, perhaps going back to mt plaza, near the park too. about samart gym, sounds good, but a bit pricey.

I was thinking the same thing about Samart's gym. 1300 baht without AC and 1800 per day with it is extremely high.

I will be at MT plaza. how did you like it there? Ill be there next week

just depends what youre looking for, but i guess youve informed yourself a bit. no accomodation, no food provided, not the cheapest, some 1-day practitioners. but atmosphere is great, so are the trainers and mr. pong is running the gym perfectly and warm hearted. youll just feel good and learn a lot, dont know if saiyok and samkor show up every day. had some sessions with jomhod back in the day w/o paying extra...
