Anyone watched it yet? I haven't been a fan of pro-wrestling since I was 10 years old and it was interesting to see a summary of all the years of content that I missed.

Also, I do respect Vince as a businessman, despite his short comings as a human being. He's pretty smart and insanely dedicated.

They do a segment on the Montreal screwjob and I can't believe people were on Brett's side. I don't think Vince screwed him at all. Brett was trying to screw Vince and all Vince did was prevent him from succeeding. Brett trying to hang on to the belt was like an actor trying to tell the director that their character should have a different ending. Fuck that. Brett's an actor and he needed to stick to his script. Especially since Vince was nice enough to help Brett figure out ways to negotiate more money out of WCW.

And if that wasn't bad enough, there was another segment in the documentary where Brett said he thought Vince was screwing up Owen Hart's character on purpose in order to punish Brett. And later he suspected Vince caused Owen's death just to punish Brett some more.

The fucking ego on this guy. Not everything is about you, Brett!

Anyhoo, anyone seen it? It's a good watch.

I wanted to watch it but the Mrs decided on outlander again this week

Will watch soon

It's good except for Meltzer still lying about WM3 attendance and that schmuck David Shoemaker. Go into it expecting entertainment over truth since Bill Simmons also did the Andre doc.

I saw it, and I know I'll rewatch it many times. It was so fuckin good.

They showed a lot of great footage from the Bret Hart documentary, Wrestling With Shadows, which goes into much greater detail. Bret had some sort of limited creative control for his final days, and he fuckin HATED Shawn. It was a combination of Shawn and Canada.

But, yeah. Vince McMahon isn't going to kill Owen Hart to get back at Bret lol.

I really liked it, just wish there was a bit more in there that we didnt already know. If you follow WWE or pro wrestling in general, alot of what was in this documentary has already been covered in other documentaries/reports etc.

The story about Vince handing Shane a knife is fucking nuts though. Makes ya realize there may have been more to him leaving than just the fact that HHH got his sister.

Not everything is about Bret, except your entire post about the Vince McMahon documentary lmao

Bret had "reasonable" creative control. And the boss wanting you to drop the title to another top star after a competitive match is objectively reasonable. Especially since Shawn was announced as #1 contender on 10/6 after winning Hell in a Cell.
Bret was about to make 3x as much guaranteed money as Shawn but still thinks wins and losses really mattered.

Fascinating doc, brought back some real nostalgia from my childhood. It was really well made too, but I thought they went too hard on the controversies, cases, lawsuits blah blah blah. I have very little interest in that, obviously you have to mention those as a big part of vince's life. But it seemed like after every few minutes they'd want to go back to the controversies. Vince came out looking pretty terrible but they balanced him out a bit in the end. It's probably not too far off.

My favorite episode was the one with shane mcmahon. The family dynamics are very interesting. I would like to see more from HHH's perspective he's had a hell of a trajectory too.

The part about brett, i'm definitely on brett's side too. I get that it's not his call to keep the belt, but the way it was done and against shawn michaels specifically, i can see why it would be a betrayal.

Brett hart can take things too personally but he had always been loyal to the company and given his all to it. Didn't deserve to be screwed in that way. And also he lost his brother, like his brother actually died falling into the ring. How're you gonna hate on him for being critical then. He even said in the documentary he eventually forgave everyone involved.

You just have to look at the pattern of most wrestlers' relationship with Vince. That tells you what he's like with them. Similar to Dana white when anyone leaves UFC.

lol. Bret the Hitman Hart was screwed out of his fake wrestling championship belt. The week before he was leaving the company where he was making 1.5 million a year to go to the competition that was currently kicking the WWF's ass so he could make 2.5 million a year.

Woe is me

Pretty sure he didn't just decide to leave and go against the company for more money, in the doc they showed he had signed a big contract with them to help them against the competition, but later they couldn't afford to keep him so they asked him to leave.

And again, losing the belt wasn't the real problem it's who he lost the belt to and the way it was done.

Watched it and I haven't watched wrestling since I was like 12-13 but I still thought it was good tbh.

Owen died because of catastrophic disregard for safety regulations so they could make it look faster on TV for him to disconnect the rigging line.
All the certified riggers told them "no fucking way", so they kept calling around trying to get someone to do it, and ended up getting a fucking hack who would break safety regulations.

I wouldn't get on a 16 foot scissorlift with the line he had, let alone the catwalk of an arena. All you have to do is cough and it releases.

Gonna watch it soon, and agreed about Brett. In wrestling, it’s about the business, and eventually, individuals need to step aside for others. It’s the way of things. It’s all planned anyway, so ego eventually has to be pushed aside for the good of the business, which got them there in the first place. Its not some pure meritocracy. Nothing more sad than a wrestler believing their own hype. Even Undertaker was eventually fine with losing his record, because he knows what should come first.

Im going to wait for his prison docu. Still waiting for part two of the Tiger King.

If you're already familiar with the history of the last 40 years in Pro-Wrestling, its offers nothing new.

It was supposed to be a 6-episode documentary of Vince McMahon's affairs with subordinates, and it got to that... in the 6th episode, at minute 36.

And it revealed absolutely nothing new.

So this was a netflix documentary to hype up WWE programing being on Netflix next year.

Eventually it becomes clear that Brett Hart is a perpetual victim. And he wants everyone to know he’s a victim. Of everything. And everyone. Its the world against Brett Hart.
