Movies not widely regarded as great but that you think are great. . .

The Hills Have Eyes 2006 only has a 6.4 on IMDB. I thought it was hilarious.

I liked it but I hate movies with tape scenes it's just to disturbing to me. The hills have eyes have some very disturbing rape scenes especially the sequel.

lol @ Antitrust. I remember that movie. It was pretty good.

"The Wash" with Snoop and Dr. Dre. It was dumb then and its dumb now, but I had a lot of good times watching that movie with friends. We used to get baked and just laugh at random parts of the movie.

Once Upon a time in America

that being the 4 hour + version

Everyone, i mean EVERYONE that i've ever heard an opinion from hates the Super Mario movie. I swear i'm the only one in existence that thought it was awesome.

One of my fav movies, same with double dragon

Extremely underrated, it's one of the best movies that never gets mentioned.

I'm gonna preemptively place Uncharted movie on that list.

We're not on the same page as far as National Treasure is concerned :)

Damn, you didn't like National Treasure? I love that movie. The sequel was pretty lackluster, though.

Hopefully uncharted will be good.

There are several, not sure which one you saw.

there's info on them on the wiki page of the movie.

I love/hate the initial one where he survives the fire, moves back with his wife (who doesn't believe him that he talked to their dead daughter), and finds the stuff from the burned room. He finds the cassette recorder with his talk with his daughter, his wife hears it and just freaks out. You see a weird grin on his face, then the screen blacks out.

Basically saying either:
- all the stuff from the room was real, and he's smiling because his wife now believes him, or (the other, truly horrible interpretation that i can't get away from)
- he's still in the room (cause how can anyone else hear a voice from a phone talk with a dead person?), and the room is "playing" him and his wife...

Damn it, now i'm thinking about that movie again...

Honestly, I don't even remember the ending. I only remember that it was terrifying. By the time it was finally over, I was ready to get the fuck out of that theater. I remained pretty disturbed for a few days.

Cannon's low rent Indy, King Solomon's Mines (1985) is decent. Not a classic but i'd take it over The Mummy and National Treasure.

That looks . . . not terrible? I can't see how you would ever take it over The Mummy or National Treasure.

Secret of the Incas (1954) is a cool precursor to Indy

I've heard of some of these pre-Indy movies but I've never been able to bring myself to watch them. I really should probably get over it, but whenever a movie is OBVIOUSLY shot on a soundstage, it's a little difficult for me to suspend my disbelief.

One very good, relatively recent movie that loses major points for this is Hook. But MANY older movies fall into that same trap, like The Wizard of Oz and a lot of adventure movies.

I've seen this poster many, many times and always thought it was cool as shit but I don't think I've ever seen the movie. Maybe I'll have to check it out.

BTW, the fantasy artwork from the 80s just blows everything else away. That style is very particular to that decade and it's awesome.

One night at mccool's was pretty bad ass. Also a big fan of punch drunk love.

On the flip side The Mummy and National Treasure are shot on a soundstage with a lot of green screen. I can barely even remember NT and I understand the appeal of the Mummy, it was decent and miles better than the lazy sequel.

Also really enjoyed girl with dragon tattoo.

Another movie that isn't talked about much.

From Hell is great (Johnny Depp, Heather Graham) also The Gift (all star cast) Cate Blanchett, Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes, Keanu Reeves, Hilary Swank.... Both movies were fantastic IMO. Gothika wasn't bad

Demolition Man and the original Total Recall - they're sci-fi classics now!

I imagine this counts:

I realize it won an oscar but I don't see a lot of people heaping praise on it for some reason.

Just thought of another one. Beyond the Sea, a biopic starring Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin.

Watched this with my folks several years ago and was amazed. Spacey is absolutely brilliant in it - I think it's his best performance, even better than the Usual Suspects' Verbal Kint, Se7ev's John Doe or American Beauty's Lester Burnham.
