Movies not widely regarded as great but that you think are great. . .

What we want here are the truly bad movies, your guilty pleasures, if you will.

Close, but actually want we want are movies that are often REGARDED as bad movies, that you think are truly good movies.

For instance, many people say The Mummy is a stupid, poorly made film. I, on the other hand, think that it's very WELL made: well-written, well-shot, well-acted . . . just executed on the highest level in all regards. A very good example of an adventure movie.

- Blade 3. I may or may not have a mancrush on Ryan Reynolds.
- 1408. I'm not into horror movies. This is one of the scariest movies i've seen ever. I will not watch it again, but i can recommend it to everyone who is into that genre. You probably won't like it.

I am with you on Blade 3. There were some missteps in that movie for sure, especially in regard to the villain, but overall I thought it was well-done. Ryan Reynolds is great in it and the action is well-staged.

As for 1408, you're the first person to mention the true terror that can be evoked by that film. I saw it in the theater and was like FUUUUUUCK THIS! Being trapped somewhere with no way to escape is one of my greatest fears. Like you, I will not watch it again.

I freakin' love that movie. The tone, the action, the plot...
Everything...
Classic revenge movie

Ok, my bad, i got it wrong then...

I agree, Mummy is a modern incarnation of Indy Jones to me.

For me personaly, the scariest part is not knowing what the room will think of next and slowly losing your mind, without diferentiating the illusion from reality.

I'd take masked monsters, scary possesed little girls, psycho killers and witches before that ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

You saw the alternate ending, right?

1408 is the most disturbing horror movie I've seen in my life.

I would not actually recommend this movie. It stays with you.

1408 with cusak?

fuckin love that movie

Behind enemy lines was an awesome movie that went straight to vhs/dvd. That movie could have done really well in movie theaters compared to the crap that is in movie theaters nowadays.

Holy shitballs...

Really... HOLY SHIT dude...

I was 7 when this movie came out, and is one of the only movies I remember from my childhood. I NEVER remembered the name of it until this day.

Watching the trailer.... OMG...

This was one of my favorite movies EVER. Probably not now, but I will watch it and come back.

Thanks you VERY much for this...

Glad I could help you remember a childhood memory. The last time I checked the whole movie is free on youtube if you want to watch it.

edit: here ya go

ya know what I think it actually deserves its own thread brb

Great movie. Owen Wilson in a serious role? Who would've thought.

Predator 2. I genuinely like that movie better than the predecessor, for various reasons (plot not being one among them).

Can't go wrong with Danny Glover wearing the most awesome action-hero pants of all time.

I just realized the female cop was the woman in The Running Man.

Well the thread started drifting away from my intentions almost immediately anyway. . .

That's EXACTLY how I see it. When I think of "classic adventure movies" I basically think of three things:

Indiana Jones
The Mummy
National Treasure (even though it's set in the modern day it has that FEEL)

I really wish we could get more movies like these. I don't know why we haven't. BTW, apparently the Mummy franchise is getting a reboot (and it sounds nothing like the previous incarnation):

You saw the alternate ending, right?

I dd not. I only saw the movie once, in the theater.

That's incorrect. I saw it in the theater. The sequel went straight to video.

I thought the SECOND GI Joe was really good and a marked improvement over its predacessor. I was pretty surprised when others disagreed.

I haven't seen it yet I'll have rent it from Netflix.
Some others I liked were Starship Troopers and Scooby Doo 2.

Army of darkness

for a sci-fi, D&D, comedy i thought this was great movie to laugh at

Ginger snaps and Sky high I really enjoy those movies.

Vegas Vacation. I know I know, it's the worst of the series and while I agree I don't think it was disappointing like some people. I lol every time I watch it.

Thought of another one today. The Last Starfighter. I loved it when I was a kid, but it seems like not a lot of other people have seen it or remember it.

I still quote this scene as an adult. I remember thinking this was the most badass line EVER when I first saw the movie.

It wasn't STV; it made nearly $100 million worldwide.
