Disney's The Little Mermaid Boxoffice breakdown -

If you're listening to the Disney-spin, its doing 'pretty well.' $185 million opening weekend worldwide boxoffice sounds really good, right?

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/m...little-mermaid-box-office-opening-1235502303/

Well, it has a $200 million budget.
After theaters take their cut + advertising its going to need to make $500 million to break even.

https://www.slashfilm.com/1298412/l...wards-125-million-holiday-weekend-box-office/

Even then, if it just breaks even its still not a success, it's just barely over what's considered an embarrassing failure.
The question is if the movie will 'have legs' to keep bringing in the box office in the coming weeks due to word-of-mouth to bring it past the $400 million, $500 million, $600 million, and I bet Disney would be satisfied with a $700-750 million worldwide haul to consider it a success to warrant greenlighting additional life-action remakes.

But its doubtful its going to come close to Aladdin, Lion King, or Jungle Book.

Aladdin - $1.05 BILLION.
Lion King - $1.66 BILLION
Jungle Book - $966 Million.

Edit - Its worth mentioning only $68 million of that $185 million is from international markets. So while its doing well domestically, the international markets are a different story.

Its going to have to rely mostly on the domestic 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks to bring it beyond that $500 million line for it to break even.

Little mermaid really wasn't that bad. Not my cup of tea but was not a bad watch. A bit long for a kids movie though.

Joe Abercrombie’s First Law series is getting adapted to the big screen. However, they aren’t starting with the original trilogy, but one of the standalone sequels.

Rebecca Ferguson In Talks For Skydance Revenge Pic ‘Best Served Cold’; ‘Deadpool’s Tim Miller Directing

EXCLUSIVE: Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible franchise) is in final talks to star in Best Served Cold, a new film based on Joe Abercrombie’s bestselling book of the same name, which Tim Miller (Deadpool) will direct for Skydance.

Originally published as part of Abercrombie’s First Law World series in the summer of 2009, Best Served Cold tells the story of the legendary mercenary Monza Murcatto (Ferguson), the betrayal that ostracizes her, and her ensuing quest for revenge that will forever change a nation.

Best Served Cold is actually my favorite book in the series. And you can adapt it easily without going over the material of the original trilogy at all.

If you wanted to start with The Blade Itself and do the original trilogy, you would need to do it as a TV series and need a ton of money. BSC also has no magic to speak of, so the FX budget will be a lot more manageable.

It's not my favorite one but I'm game for any of them being made

Loved Best Served Cold. Think I'm most interested to see who they cast as Shivers. Super curious to know if they will add all of the tie in characters to pave a path for future books and put characters in from the First Law.

Like will they cast Bremer dan Gorst for a tiny scene knowing he be a huge role in The Heroes?

Or Yoru Sulfur who will have a part in every book?

I need to know!!

Gorst is on my list of things most likely to get cut. His August Majesty the King of the Union is likely going to get the faceless treatment. Sulfur I can see getting replaced by a random representative of the banking house of Valint & Balk.

As soon as I read the news I started listening to the audiobook to freshen up and see what else is likely to end up in the chopping block. So far I'm thinking the flashbacks to Monza's childhood are gonna go.

Official Trailer for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM

Wasn't really interested but this new official trailer is really good and won me over. Love the unique animation/art style and the vibrant color palette. There's a chance this might be another Into the Spider-Verse where people initially hated the movie concept and even the trailers but changed their minds once they saw it.

Despite having been born in 1982 I never saw the animated version, so I was able to judge this one on its own merits. It was OK. Halle Bailey has some pipes on her.

BTW, the chick playing the human-disguise version of Ursula stole all 5 minutes she was on screen. Talk about understanding the fucking assignment.

Thanks for the feedback on The Little Mermaid. Not interested in watching it in theaters and it seems I made the right call based on your reactions. That's what I was expecting - a decent watch but not enough to justify going to the cinemas for it.

Yeah I don't really care about her childhood. I don't especially care about her but it'll be great to see who they cast as shivers. I'm blanking on who else is in it that's in the other books but shivers alone will make me go to theatres for it.

Vitari is prominent in the book.

She’s supposed to be hot but scary, I seem to recall.

Dwayne Johnson Returning for New Fast and Furious Movie Written by Chris Morgan; Will Not Be a Hobbs & Shaw Sequel

After the surprise tease at the end of Fast X, Universal is making it official: Dwayne Johnson is back for another Fast and Furious movie.

Johnson will star in an untitled Fast project, Universal and Johnson announced Thursday. Fast mainstay Chris Morgan penned the script. The return is a major reversal for the star, who had insisted, repeatedly, that he was done with the action franchise after clashing with Fast headliner Vin Diesel.

The new project also marks a return for Morgan, who sat out F9 and Fast X but penned six of the main franchise movies as well as the 2019 spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which starred Johnson and Jason Statham.

Johnson will also produce this Fast project with his Seven Bucks Productions partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Interestingly, joining Johnson on the producers list is Fast star and steward Diesel, who will produce with Samantha Vincent via their One Race company. (The producers are clearly taking the franchise’s theme of “family” to heart, as Dany Garcia is Johnson’s ex-wife, while Hiram Garcia is Dany’s brother and Johnson’s ex-brother-in-law. Samantha Vincent is Diesel’s sister.)

Also producing are Morgan for his Chris Morgan Productions, Jeff Kirschenbaum for Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, and Neal Moritz for Original Film.

This new movie is not a spinoff a la Hobbs & Shaw, nor is it a Fast 11 or Fast 12. Rather, sources say, the movie will act as a bridging chapter between Fast X and Fast 11 — more of a Fast X.5, if you will. It is expected to star other Fast actors as well.

But fans shouldn’t get too excited about an onscreen reunion between Johnson and Diesel yet. Sources also say that Diesel is not expected to star in this side chapter, although nothing is being ruled out for future projects.

In essence, the two conflicting megastars have found a way to reunite behind the screen but not on the screen, to return Johnson to the Fast franchise but without returning him to Diesel’s family dinners.

Johnson and Diesel famously clashed on the 2016 set of Fate of the Furious, which sparked Johnson to go public with his displeasure on Instagram, calling out an unnamed male co-star. Over the years, he’s stated multiple times in the press that he would not be returning to the main franchise. “I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021.

Just saw that they officially announced Terrifier 3, which isnt a surprise, but all they kept talking about in the story was the bigger budget, which also isnt a surprise after the breakout success of part 2
I just hope they dont try and get too fancy with it, the cheap filming style and raw practical effects is exactly what made these movies so special, they're a throwback to the low budget straight to VHS slasher flicks of the 80's and thats why we love them

By the way, Terrifier 2 is now streaming for free on Peacock, if you havent seen it yet its definitely worth a watch

Interesting news about Flash even though the actor who played the Flash is in hot water the director said he is the only one he will direct. So Ezra Miller looks to have another run in another Flash movie apparently? The director could say he would only do another film if Miller was involved but specifically say "He is his only choice to direct in the film". Then it was leaked that Ben Affleck would be open to working with Ezra Miller again. Things seem at least of the comments that Warner is very happy with the final product and would be open to backing another Flash film. Even though the early box office number show a weak opening they seem to be confident it will exceed expectations.

I will not see a Flash film absent of Michael Keaton's Batman. I hope all of this new DC EU stuff tanks.

Well no one will miss you I would imagine in fact your opinion is one of someone who has not seen the film yet.

One person who seen the film review.
""'The Flash' is pretty great, and it makes sense to me now why DC didn't shelve this one. Michael Keaton is ... chef's kiss. I didn't realize how much I needed Keaton's Batman in my life again. Some really emotional moments here. Sasha Calle is awesome - I want to see more of her!""

Why would I have already needed to see the film to make the statement, "I will not see a Flash film absent of Michael Keaton's Batman?" Has the film even been released yet?

Doesn't look terrible but I wish they could have added some more names. Also wish it was going straight to streaming because I don't think it will do all that great at the box office but I'll keep my hopes up
