JOKER Sequel Officially in the Works with Joaquin Phoenix to Star and Todd Phillips to Write and Direct

The team behind Joker is ready to laugh it up once again, with filmmaker Todd Phillips officially confirming he has completed a script for a sequel to his Oscar-winning 2019 film.

Phillips shared a cover page to the script, co-written with Joker collaborator Scott Silver, along with a photo of star Joaquin Phoenix reading its pages. Phillips also revealed the working title is Joker: Folie à deux, a reference to a medical term for a mental disorder that affects two or more individuals.

Phoenix earned a best actor Oscar for the role of Arthur Fleck, a troubled man who evolves into a folk villain type figure by the end of the story. Joker earned $1.07 billion globally, a staggering sum for a film that had a relatively modest budget by comic book movie standards. In all, Joker received 11 Oscar nominations, with composer Hildur Gudnadottir winning for best score in addition to Phoenix’s win. Joker was praised for playing more like an early Martin Scorsese film than a comic book movie, though it did have some comic book tie-ins, including the inclusion of a young Bruce Wayne.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news in 2019 that Phillips would return to write a Joker sequel, and last week reported that the filmmaker may serve as an advisor of some sort on future DC projects for Warner Bros.

THUNDERBOLTS Live-Action Movie Officially in the Works at Marvel Studios with Jake Schreier Directing

Marvel Studios’ villains are getting a jolt, with the super villain team the Thunderbolts getting their own film.Filmmaker Jake Schreier, who has directed films such as Robot & Frank and episodes of TV series such as Jim Carrey’s Kidding, Dave and Minx, has landed the job to direct Thunderbolts, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Marvel veteran Eric Pearson is penning the script, after working with the studio on Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok. Deadline first reported the news.

In the comics, the Thunderbolts are a team of supervillains who debuted in The Incredible Hulk No. 449, and created by writer Mark Bagley and artist Kurt Busiek. They are akin to DC’s Suicide Squad as that in some versions the team works under government supervision.

Speculation that Marvel could set up the Thunderbolts dates back to 2019, when studio boss Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Daniel Bruhl would return as the villain Zemo for Disney+’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In the comics, Zemo was the founding member of the team, which has led by figures such as Hawkeye as well.

Marvel has introduced a number of other villains who could make up the roster, though no stars are said to be attached to Thunderbolts. Villains who feel like a fit for the big screen Thunderbolts include Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Yelena Bolova (Florence Pugh) and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who in both Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow pulls the strings behind the scenes in a way suggesting she could oversee a team of villains.

Marvel is preparing to debut Thor: Love and Thunder in theaters and just launched Ms. Marvel on Disney+. The studio has a full slate over the next few years, and will debut more at D23 in September, Disney confirmed Thursday.

Schreier recently filmed the Netflix and A24 series Beef, which stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. Pearson’s credits also include Godzilla vs. Kong and TV’s Agent Carter.

Just saw Pixar's LIGHTYEAR. It was pretty good. Didn't like the supporting team members though, some of them were so incompetent and made lots of blunders that it became annoying. Sox (the robot cat) was great.

Heard a lot about this movie so I think it's time for me to watch it. Robot cat sounds intriguing

What do you guys think of PLF (premium large format) screens? Do you go out of your way to see movies on them or does the more expensive ticket price keep you away?

These are trending right now. Top Gun's massive 2nd week success was largely attributed to the upcharge this format carries with it and it probably would have done insane numbers if not for Jurassic World knocking it out of most PLF screens.

Any of the old movie crew still about on here? Sodapopinski, Bullit, Yeahbee etc?

The latter two, yeah. Hello, stranger.

Fingercuffs! Fellow Gooner! How are you? Long time no see. Suddenly thought of this place this morning and was trying to figure out when I joined. Thought it must have been like 2009... Way off! Hope all is well?
