Barry Breakout Anthony Carrigan to Play the Villain in BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC

XlYBNLl.jpg

Anthony Carrigan, who plays fan-favorite Noho Hank on HBO’s Barry, has joined Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in Bill & Ted Face the Music, the third installment of the Bill & Ted comedies.

Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is directing the movie, which has a script by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the screenwriter duo behind the first two Bill & Ted movies. The pic is set to being shooting in July in New Orleans.

The cast already includes William Sadler, Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine and Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi).

The new story, according to the production, once again centers on the affable best-friends, now middle-aged and still yet to fulfill their rock 'n' roll destiny. When a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can safe life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe, the pair set out on a new adventure, helped along by their daughters, old friends, a new batch of historical figures and a few music legends.

Carrigan’s character details are being kept in a phone booth, but it known that he will be the duo’s relentless adversary.

Face the Music solidifies Carrigan’s breakout hot streak and comes on the heels of the actor booking a gig opposite Kevin Hart in the upcoming Sony dramedy Fatherhood, Paul Weitz’s adaptation of the best-seller Two Kisses for Maddy.

Carrigan appeared on such TV shows as Parenthood and The Flash before landing a recurring role on the Batman-themed series Gotham. However, it has been his scene-stealing turn as a good-natured but deadly Chechen gangster known as NoHo Hank on Barry that has trampolined him into current cult status. The dark comedy was recently renewed by HBO for a third season and is generating plenty of Emmy buzz.

The Departed's Ray Winstone Joins the Cast of Marvel Studios' BLACK WIDOW Movie

yDiaEOs.jpg

“The Departed” star Ray Winstone has joined Marvel’s “Black Widow” standalone movie, sources tell Variety. “Stranger Things'” David Harbour and “Midsommar’s” Florence Pugh are also on board to star alongside Scarlett Johansson. Cate Shortland has signed on to direct from Jac Schaeffer’s script, with Kevin Feige producing.

Marvel had no comment on the casting. The film is currently in production in London.

Plot details for the standalone “Black Widow” pic are unknown, though it’s expected to follow Marvel’s other films that focus on a single hero as an origin tale. Winstone’s role in the film is also unknown.

Since Johansson first appeared as Black Widow in 2010’s “Iron Man 2” and with the more recent increased attention on women-led films, there’s been a push from Marvel fans for Black Widow to get her own origin movie like every other Avenger. With the latest phase of the MCU coming to a close with “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” the studio felt the time was right to move forward on the project.

Best known for his roles in “The Departed,” “Sexy Beast,” and “Noah,” Winstone can be seen next in Universal and Working Title’s “Cats” adaptation, which bows Dec. 20, 2019. He most recently appeared in the StudioCanal pic “King of Thieves.” Other credits include “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Hugo.”

Looks like the Red Sonja movie is back on:

Millennium Films has set Transparent creator Jill Soloway to write and direct Red Sonja, a film that went back to the drawing board earlier this year after Bryan Singer was dropped as director. Soloway is coming in with a bold new take, and gives the film much better optics that already has studios approaching Millennium. Soloway’s Topple Productions partner Andrea Sperling is also coming aboard as a producer.

[- - -]

It is the first deal for Soloway since directing The Transparent Movie Musicale Finale that this fall will wrap Soloway’s groundbreaking Amazon series creation. Casting will start anew for an actress to play Red Sonja, who originated as a comic book heroine in the 1970s and has appeared in hundreds of comics over the decades, with Dynamite Entertainment still publishing them today. It will be the second film treatment for the character following the 1985 actioner that starred Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

[- - -]

Singer was set as Red Sonja director last year, even after being fired from Bohemian Rhapsody two weeks before wrapping, for repeated absences. The movie was at the time asserting itself in the Oscar Best Picture race with a box office run that ended with an astounding $903 million worldwide, and Singer also had an enviable superhero track record with X-Men. But Singer was dropped after the publication of an article in The Atlantic that leveled tawdry allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against the director. Despite Singer’s denials, distributors wanted no part of it, and it would have been a challenge to find an actress to play the character who, in the comic mythology, is out to avenge her family, with sexual assault a part of that tapestry.

I don't know anything about this director, but at least we've gotten past the Singer hurdle without the project falling back into development hell for the gods know how long.

My opinion remains the same that if they must go with a known actress instead of an unknown, then Karen Gillan should be the one and only name on the short list.

Just walked out of Aladdin. Holy hell that was bad.
Too bad you already contributed to its box office sales. All of these Disney live action remakes are just cheap cash grabs. They should have just re-released the original versions in theaters.

Idk man lion king looks dope. Aladdin looked retarded to begin with, lion king looks like a whole new ballgame

Someone else on here made a point that the live action remakes with primarily animal main characters (e.g., Jungle Book) turn out better than the ones with all human main characters.

Jaume Collet-Serra to Direct Shazam Spinoff BLACK ADAM Starring Dwayne Johnson

9zGSzjY.jpg

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, New Line’s spinoff/follow-up to its hit Shazam!, has found its director. Jaume Collet-Serra, who just wrapped shooting Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, is reteaming with the A-lister for the DC Comics-based action movie.

Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo will produce with Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions.

Black Adam is considered the archnemesis of Shazam, dating all the way back to the 1940s when the hero was called Captain Marvel. He was a semi-immortal Egyptian prince who became corrupted by the magical powers imbued to him by a wizard. In current comics lore, he is considered an anti-hero.

The character was at one point to have been in a main Shazam! movie but the studio and producers ultimately decided he warranted his own movie.

Collet-Sera made his start directing horror movies such as a remake of House of Wax and Orphan before going on direct a string of Liam Neeson action flicks that included The Commuter, Run All Night, Non-Stop and Unknown. He last helmed the low-budget hit The Shallows, featuring Blake Lively as a surfer attacked by a great white shark.

John Cena Joins Vin Diesel and Jordana Brewster in FAST & FURIOUS 9

Okgg1bI.jpg

With Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham being busy shooting Hobbs and Shaw, the two will be sitting out the next main installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast and Furious 9. However, that movie will be getting some new star power to help fill that void, as after being teased in April, it’s been confirmed that John Cena has joined the Fast and Furious 9 cast.

Back in April, Vin Diesel, who’s been playing Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious universe universe since the beginning, posted a video of himself with John Cena, hinting that the two would be collaborating on this car and explosions-filled franchise. Now Universal Pictures has made it official that Cena will be part of Fast and Furious 9.

For now, though, Universal is keeping mum about who John Cena will play, with Deadline only hearing that his character is a “badass.” That’s not difficult to imagine in the slightest given John Cena’s reputation and some of his previous roles, but that’ll nonetheless make him a good fit for the next Fast and Furious movie.

He must be pissed off to be remember for a not very good bit part in The Departed over that, Sexy Beast, etc

Red Sonja does have the advantage the original film isn't very well thought of compared to Conan so less chance of a fan backlash. Hopefully the avoid the clichéd Clash of the Titans(remake) "slick grimdark" style, maybe go back to the original Conan's more sparse style with mostly location shooting.

Casting wise Gillian is due to get a non Nebula makeup staring role in Gunpowder Milkshake(assasin thriller) next year so she might be considered more by then, could depend on what happens in the MCU as well, supposed to be no Guardians film for awhile but could there be a Captain Marvel/Thor sequel before that with her in?

I spose you could argue the MCU generally is a decent potential casting pool for that kind of role if the actresses are free, Eilzibeth Olsen maybe or Johansson who arguably fits it better physically.
