XtGQ6T5.jpg

Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern are all set to reprise their iconic roles from Jurassic Park in the next installment of the Jurassic World franchise.

Goldblum will once again play chaos theorist Dr. Ian Malcom with Dern returning as paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler and Neill as paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant.

The trio of actors anchored Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic Jurassic Park, with only Goldblum returning for 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park.Dern and Neill were featured in Jurassic Park III in 2001. Goldblum made an all-to-brief cameo in 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow revealed the fan-friendly casting news at a screening of Jurassic World held at the Arclight Los Angeles hosted by Collider.

The film will be penned by franchise newcomer Emily Carmichael along with Trevorrow, who directed the 2015 reboot of the franchise and was co-writer of Fallen Kingdom. Trevorrow is returning to executive produce the new chapter along with Spielberg, the filmmaker behind the original movies in the 1990s. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are returning as producers.

Plot details are still to be known, but Carmichael and Trevorrow are said to be working from a story by Trevorrow and writing partner Derek Connolly. Carmichael co-wrote the script to Pacific Rim Uprising and also rewrote The Black Hole for Disney and director Joseph Kosinski. Carmichael came to Spielberg’s attention when she set up the family action-adventure Powerhouse at Amblin Entertainment.

Universal has set a June 11, 2021 release date for the movie.

Jason Bateman to Direct Ryan Reynolds in Hasbro's Live-Action CLUE Reboot

Me6is30.jpg

Fresh from Sunday’s Emmy win for Best Directing in a Drama Series for Netflix’s Ozark, Jason Bateman is in early talks direct Ryan Reynolds in Clue, the live-action feature adaptation of the Hasbro board game for Fox/Disney. Bateman also plans to star in the film, though it’s early going.

Bateman, who won the Emmy for the Ozark episode “Reparations,” will develop the Clue script with Reynolds, who’s producing through his Maximum Effort banner, along with Allspark Pictures, the film division of Hasbro.

Reynolds made a three-year producing deal early last year off the success of the two Deadpool movies, and the studio at that time set Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first Deadpool film, to script Clue.

Bateman just began production today on the new season of Ozark. He will direct two episodes of the show in Season 3, as well as reprise his role as the drug cartel financial advisor Marty Byrde. Byrde, you might recall, took his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks to launder $500 million, and thanks to his wife Wendy (Laura Linney), ended last season at the helm of a riverboat casino instead of fleeing the murderous cartel.

Bateman separately is directing the first two episodes of The Outsider for HBO.

Breaking: Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige Developing a New STAR WARS Movie

FJJe4k3.jpg

To the surprise of no one, Kevin Feige is a huge Star Wars fan. It might surprise many, however, that the Marvel Studios chief is going to be developing a Star Wars movie as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy makes new plans for a wave of projects set in the universe, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Feige had discussed a foray into the Star Wars universe in a late summer meeting with Kennedy and studio co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, sources say.

In response to a query from THR, Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Horn said, "We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together."

Some see this move as a prelude to a larger role for Feige within Lucasfilm, while others say it merely reflects the Marvel executive’s passion for the franchise. A top Disney source says Kennedy remains in charge with no plans for any changes. One knowledgeable source says Feige has told a major actor that there’s a specific role he would like that person to play if and when he makes the movie.

However, with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker set to hit theaters Dec. 20, it is understandable that Disney would like to keep as much about the future of the franchise under wraps as possible. Skywalker, otherwise known as Episode IX, is meant to be the final installment of the series that was first launched by George Lucas in 1977. It is also meant to win back fans after the last sequel trilogy entry, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, divided audiences, even though reviews were largely positive and the film grossed $1.3 billion worldwide.

Under Feige’s leadership, Marvel has had an extraordinary run of hits, including four of the top 10 movies ever released. This summer, Avengers: Endgame grossed $2.9 billion and surpassed Avatar to become the top grosser of all time, not adjusted for inflation. Feige has a packed slate of Marvel movies and TV in the works, and he is expected to take a big role in developing the Marvel heroes, like the X-Men, that Disney got in the Fox acquisition.

Sony Pictures Developing Spider-Man Spinoff MADAME WEB Live-Action Movie

Iv4lBZJ.jpg

Sony is continuing to spin its web of Spider-Man. The studio is developing a movie based on the Spider-Man character Madame Web, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported by Collider, the film has screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penning a script. The duo are behind Morbius, Jared Leto's Spider-Man spinoff about a living vampire. Sony's Palak Patel is overseeing the project. The studio declined to comment.

Introduced in 1980’s The Amazing Spider-Man No. 210, Madame Web is a clairvoyant mutant who specializes in predicting the future specifically of Spider-themed superheroes, having mentored not only Peter Parker’s alter ego, but also multiple generations of heroes calling themselves Spider-Woman. Traditionally depicted as a blind, paralyzed old woman, she is surrounded by a web-like machine necessary to keep her alive, meaning that she stays away from direct conflict, favoring the option to send others to do the physical stuff on her behalf.

Sony has the film rights to both Spider-Man and numerous characters connected to him. In addition to Morbius, which opens July 31, 2020, the studio has Venom 2 and multiple Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follow-ups in the works. The Madame Web news comes weeks after the studio had a high-profile split with Marvel Studios over use of Spider-Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Spider-Man: Far From Home, the most recent film to star Tom Holland as the superhero, stands as Sony's highest-grossing movie ever with more than $1.12 billion globally.

Money Heist Breakout Star Ursula Corbero to Play Baroness in SNAKE EYES

D4wZchX.jpg

“Money Heist” breakout star Úrsula Corberó has closed a deal to play the Baroness in Paramount’s “G.I. Joe” spinoff “Snake Eyes,” an individual with knowledge of the deal exclusively told TheWrap.

“Crazy Rich Asians” breakout Henry Golding is set to play Snake Eyes. “Warrior” headliner Andrew Koji is playing Storm Shadow.

“Snake Eyes,” the third live-action film based on the “G.I. Joe” toy line, will focus on the origins of the fan-favorite character known for his masked face, black commando uniform and ninja training. Robert Schwentke, the director of “Red” and “R.I.P.D.,” is set to direct “Snake Eyes” for Paramount and Allspark Pictures, in association with Skydance. The film will be released on Oct. 16, 2020.

“Beauty and The Beast” screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the screenplay, and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner are producing.

The story centers on Snake Eyes’ origins where he tries to become a member of the Arashikage Clan, a ninja clan based in Japan. According to “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra: The Essential Guide,” the Arashikage worked as shadowy assassins for generations, using deception to earn their keep as ninjas, as well as developing a reputation for being able to perform impossible tasks.

Corberó is best known for her roles in the television series “Fisica o Quimica,” “Isabel,” “La embajada” and “La casa de papel,” which was acquired by Netflix in 2017 and was retitled “Money Heist.” She also starred in films like “Paranormal Xperience 3D,” and “El Arbol de La Sangre.”

Marvel Studios/Disney and Sony Pictures Striking a Deal for One More SPIDER-MAN Movie

4oFrS1y.jpg

Spider-Man is back in action. After publicly parting ways over a deal gone south, Disney/Marvel and Sony are back at the table and have struck a deal that would see Marvel produce one more Spider-Man film for Sony.

The new film even has a release date: July 16, 2021.

"I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said Marvel topper Kevin Feige. "Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

In 2015, Marvel and Sony unveiled an unprecedented intra-studio partnership that produced not only two well-regarded and massive hits with Spider-Man: Homecoming and this summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, but it also took the character, whose movie rights are owned by Sony, and put him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe where the character became one of its key players.

But the co-parenting deal fell apart not too long after the release of Far From Home, spilling into the open in August.

Terms of the new deal were not revealed but it will allow Marvel and its chief Feige to produce and run creative point on one more movie that would star Tom Holland, the actor who is the current incarnation of the web-slinging superhero.

The partnership between Sony and Marvel has been fruitful at the box office. Homecoming made $880.1 million and featured Marvel character Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), while Spider-Man was a key part of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and had a small but powerful role in this year's Avengers: Endgame. Both films grossed more than $2 billion, with Endgame standing as the top film of all time, not adjusted for inflation. Far From Home was also a billion dollar player, grossing $1.1 billion and is Sony's highest grossing film ever.

There was plenty of incentive to drive the two sides to return. Shared revenue of box office receipts notwithstanding, the success of Spider-Man also drives other lanes. Sony, for example, has a slate of Spider-Man-centric characters that are in the early stages of getting their own movies, with Venom already a hit and a sequel to start shooting in November. Morbius, another title based on a Marvel character, is in post-production with a release set for 2020. The slate has benefitted from Spider-Man’s popularity. There is also Sony’s Spider-Man video game franchise, which is one of the more popular games currently in circulation.

Marvel, meanwhile, gets to capitalize on merchandizing. But perhaps more importantly, it gets to keep creative control over its most popular character, something it did not have during the years that saw the studio, then run by Amy Pascal, make critically-maligned movies, and thus protect the brand.

Bumblebee Filmmaker Travis Knight to Direct Tom Holland in UNCHARTED Movie

QXw87pY.jpg

Sony Pictures is negotiating with Travis Knight to direct Uncharted, the Sony Pictures film adaptation of the massive selling PlayStation game. Tom Holland remains attached to star and has been squarely in the mix in the discussions for Knight to come aboard after Dan Trachtenberg exited. The film will begin production early next year.

Knight directed the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, and Kubo and The Two Strings. He cut his teeth as lead animator for stop-motion animation studio Laika, on films that have included Coraline, The Boxtrolls and ParaNorman. Bumblebee was his live action directing debut.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing for Atlas Entertainment and Avi Arad and Ari Arad for Arad Productions.

Scripted by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, the Uncharted film has a story line that captures the protagonist as a young man, as he grows into the treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The video game series was created by Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation and has sold over 41 million copies to date. The film will become the first feature production of Sony PlayStation Productions, which was set up on the Sony lot last year by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. They will be executive producers.
