SUPERMAN: LEGACY Adds Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher

Superman: Legacy is rounding out its call sheet with Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacherr.

They will join the previously announced cast of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, as well as Nicholas Hoult as the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis Lex Luthor.

Gisondo, best known for HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, will play the cub photographer at The Daily Planet who works with Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Jack Larson first played Jimmy Olsen in the 1950s TV show Adventures of Superman, while Marc McClure and Sam Huntington inhabited the role in future adaptations.

Sampaio, a Portuguese model, is portraying the assistant-turned-love interest of Lex Luthor. This role has been previously brought to life by Valerie Perrine in the Christopher Reeve films and Andrea Brooks on The CW’s series Supergirl.

James Gunn is directing Superman: Legacy, which will mark the first feature film under the newly relaunched DC Studios. After a string of DC flops, including The Flash and Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Gunn and fellow co-chief Peter Safran plan to reconfigure the comic book’s film and television projects. Before Legacy can take the universe in a fresh direction, the Jason Momoa-led sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters on Dec. 22.

Though exact details for Superman: Legacy have remained under wraps, Safran has teased the story “focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

Despite the delay from the writers and actors strike, Superman: Legacy is still set to make its original release date of July 11, 2025. With production able to resume, the director has been lining up his cast and recently confirmed on social media the additions of María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

New KARATE KID Movie Coming Out in 2024 with Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio Set to Star

Call it the Karate Kid Cinematic Universe. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, both of whom starred in Karate Kid movies decades apart, are set to reprise their popular characters in Sony Pictures’ latest installment of the iconic coming-of-age martial arts franchise.

Jonathan Entwistle, best known for his well-regarded and award-winning teen television dramas I’m Not Okay with This and The End of the F***ing World, is directing the untitled feature that the studio is positioning as the fusing and continuing the mythology of the original franchise.

A global search for an actor to play the erstwhile title character launched today, with Chan and Macchio kicking things off with an introductory video, seen below.

Rob Lieber, whose credits include Sony’s Peter Rabbit and Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, wrote the script. The plot line is hiding in the back of the dojo.

However, it is known that the latest iteration will bring the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor.

Karen Rosenfelt is producing the feature, which Sony has penciled in for a Dec. 13, 2024, release date. A spring shoot is being eyed.

The Karate Kid launched in 1984, with the original movie being an unexpected hit. It starred Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, a Brooklyn kid who moves to California and finds himself an unlikely karate champion under the tutelage of Mr. Miyagi, an apartment handyman who is quite proficient in karate. Miyagi was played by the late Pat Morita, who earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination his work.

The movie spawned three sequels — Macchio appeared in two of them, while Hilary Swank took on the titular mantle in a 1994 outing — with the franchise seeing a resurgence in the past several years thanks to Cobra Kai. The series became a tornado kick hit for YouTube and Netflix, bringing back many of the original characters, including LaRusso, as it introduced a new generation of butt-kicking teens. Fans have dubbed these stories the Miyagi-verse after Morita’s character; Morita passed away in 2011.

Sony revived the title in 2010 with a remake that updated the story for more modern and global times, focusing on an American kid, played by Jaden Smith, who moves to Beijing and is mentored by a handyman/martial arts master played by Chan, already a beloved international star at that point. The movie turned out be another unexpected hit, grossing $359 million on a budget of $40 million, and scored positive reviews.

New JASON BOURNE Movie in the Works with All Quiet on the Western Front Director Edward Berger

After his World War I epic All Quiet on the Western Front took home the Oscar for Best International Feature Film and three others, director Edward Berger might have found his follow-up project with one of the biggest action heroes of this century.

Sources tell Deadline that Universal Pictures is looking to get back in business with Jason Bourne as the studio has begun early development on a new installment in the Jason Bourne franchise and that Berger is in negotiations to oversee development and direct the pic.

Universal could not be reached for comment, and insiders close to the project say there is no script at this time and that it is still in early development. That said, Berger has been in high demand following All Quiet‘s big night at the Oscars, and his potential involvement with the project has all parties very excited about the future of Bourne.

If a deal closes, Berger would be the only attachment at this time. No other talent is on board, but insiders add that Matt Damon — who starred as Bourne in four of the five films — would be approached first to return in the iconic role once a script is finished. As always, everything has to be executed perfectly for Damon to even consider coming back to the franchise, and that starts with a great script and story. So as of right nowm no commitment from him until all of that is in place.

Like the Fast & Furious franchise, Bourne is a very important IP to Universal that has led to both massive box office dollars as well as huge critical acclaim and is always a property that is highly valued at the studio.

As for Berger, his All Quiet on the Western Front scored nine Academy Awards nominations including Best Picture — also winning for Score, Cinematography and Production Design. It also won seven BAFTAs including Best Film Not In The English Language and Best Director.

Melissa Barrera is so fine that I actually watched every episode of that ball bustingly woke ass series “Vida” just to see her. It’s actually worth it. She gets naked a lot and has tons of good sex scenes in that series.

They got this one wrong. Hopefully they reinstate her.

Ortega is rumoured to be pulling out as well. She's playing the "schedule conflict" card . I'm guessing they get them back. Give it a few months then announce they are coming back.

Official Trailer for JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, PART 1

If all these rumors are Deadpool 3 are legit, its going to be a continuity nightmare.

the scheduling thing is pretty funny because the next Scream is not even scheduled yet. "yeah, well, whenever it turns out to be I am going to be busy then"

My understanding is that her main issue is pay. The studio was willing to let Campbell go over pay and they probably think that worked out ok and so maybe they will be willing to do it again. Keep the costs low with less known and cheaper talent.

Or, as you say, maybe this will all be resolved in a couple of months with a big check

Warner Bros. Discovery and A24 signed a new agreement that will bring the independent media company's film slate directly to HBO, Max, and Cinemax. A24's previous TV and streaming distribution deal, with Paramount's Showtime network, was signed in 2019 and expires this year.

  • Current A24 films that will make their streaming debuts on Max include Sofia Coppola's Presley biopic "Priscilla," the fact-based wrestling drama "The Iron Claw," and the surreal comedy "Dream Scenario," starring Nicolas Cage.
  • The agreement also brings A24's library of titles -- numbering over 100 -- to HBO and Max; this list includes Oscar winner "Everything Everywhere All At Once," "Uncut Gems," "The Whale," and "Past Lives."
