Movies Movie News and Notes

So Marvel an Disney are working on a very secretive project called Nomad I think? It looks definitely evolving Steve Rogers, potential Black Widow an of all people Tony Stark. It has to to with an person or entity that's capable of shaping time an space an rewriting history.

I don't think it's a bad guy or girl? But could bring back the big three together again one more time or completely restart the MCU cannon that has been derailed a bit lately.

Of interest was the fact that Kevin said there was no way we are bringing back Tony Stark in MCU again. It seems that was short lived statement. Who knows it could show up before Secret Wars as phase 6 an it confirms original captain not in New World Order.

Anyway this is conjecture anyways but it makes sense for Marvel seeing recent efforts such as Ant-Man, she hulk an others have been poorly received.

Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry to Produce and Star in "Bond vs. Bourne" Action Thriller MAUDE V MAUDE

maude_maude.png

Following an intense multi-studio bidding war that went into the weekend, Warner Bros has landed the package Maude v Maude, with Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry attached to star.

Roseanne Liang is on board to direct from Scott Mosier’s script. Berry and Jolie will produce along with Berry’s producing partner Holly Jeter via their banner HalleHolly, along with Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth who will produce through RK Films. Mosier and Liang will exec produce.

Exact details are being kept under wraps, but and insider describes the pic as a “Bond vs. Bourne” type of global action thriller with locations to be announced.

While Berry and Jolie have had careers that have spanned three decades, the two have never worked together. Both are veterans of the genre, though; Jolie starred as the title character in the hit action thriller Salt, and Berry played Jinx in the blockbuster Bond installment Die Another Day. Other action-heavy credits include Berry starring in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and the X-Men movies, while Jolie’s credits include starring in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Maleficent as well as originating the role of Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

The package hit the market last week and wrapped over the weekend, with Warner Bros getting aggressive and putting in the winning bid. Since taking over as co-studio heads, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy having been pushing to get more movie star-centric packages into their future slate. Once this package with two of the bigger stars in the last two decades came together, it was too hard to pass up, with Warners putting in an impressive bid you haven’t been seeing from the studios as often these days, especially with the endless amounts of money the streamers seem to have.

While it’s become more common for streamers like Apple or Netflix to make aggressive plays for packages like this, De Luca and Abdy have never shied away from going after a project if they believe in the talent around it. They were two of the more active buyers in the market when the were running MGM, outbidding the competition for similar hot packages like Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, and the Ryan Gosling-fronted Project Hail Mary. This latest sale shows they aren’t changing that strategy anytime soon.

Legendary's STREET FIGHTER Live-Action Movie Lands Talk to Me Filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou

Danny and Michael Philippou are taking it to the street. The Australian twin filmmaker duo behind Sundance horror sensation Talk to Me are in final negotiations to direct Street Fighter, Legendary’s feature adaptation of the classic video game from Capcom.

Street Fighter is one of the more enduring fighting video game franchises of all time. It began life with the 1987 arcade game Street Fighter, and set a high water mark for arcade fighting games with Street Fighter II. The game, released in 1991, was the first to offer a choice of characters and fighting techniques, revolutionizing one-on-one play.

SFII became a phenomenon, with Capcom unleashing countless special editions and remakes. In all, the franchise has sold 49 million units worldwide, with a new installment, Street Fighter 6, due out June 2.

A take on the material, or which characters would be involved, wasn’t revealed, but if the Philippous are being hired off the strength of their breakout, tension and gore may be on the agenda. Conversations with a short list of writers are currently underway.

Legendary had no comment on the deal. The company, which picked up the movie and TV rights to the game earlier this month, is working with Capcom to produce the adaptation.

The Philippou brothers ran a very popular YouTube channel, RackaRacka, making horror and comedy content, but it was their feature debut, Talk to Me, that really got Hollywood’s attention. The movie, which tells the story of a young woman who conjures a spirit via an embalmed hand, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The screening touched off a bidding war, with A24 paying a seven-figure sum for the rights.

DODGEBALL Sequel in the Works at the 20th Century Studios with Star Vince Vaughn to Return

MCDDODG_FE017.jpeg

Vince Vaughn is set to star in a long-gestating sequel to the 2004 film Dodgeball in the works at 20th Century Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The original film starred Vaughn as the slacker owner of a rundown gym who gathers a group of misfits into a dodgeball tournament in order to defeat an encroaching corporate gym run by Ben Stiller. The movie grossed more than $114 million domestically on a reported budget of $20 million.

Vaughn is also expected to produce the sequel, which earlier was set up at Fox. Vaughn and co-star Stiller have long mulled the idea of a sequel, but the project has not moved forward, apparently until now.

“They’ve always talked about these things forever and I had an idea that was fun and the studio likes it, so we’ll see where it goes. I think Ben is open to doing it, I think he’s in the same boat as me actually which is if it’s a really fun and great idea then that’s fun, but if it’s just something to go do it again then why?” Vaughn told THR in December 2022 during a premiere for his comedy Christmas with the Campbells.

Jordan VanDina (The Binge) is understood to be at work on a script for the sequel, now in early development. There’s no word on a storyline for the Dodgeball follow-up film, or whether it yet has Stiller’s stamp of approval or involvement.

The original sports comedy film written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber was seen as the ultimate Hollywood underdog story as Vaughn’s character, Peter LaFleur, led a fight to save his gym business from an evil fitness impresario.
