2017 was actually freaky, 1990 was always corny with campy acting to me (outside of Tim curry of course)

I strongly suspect that any who voted for the 1990 version either has never really watched it or is suffering from head trauma. It was movie of the week grade and rated G.

I think you just proved that you're not familiar with the original. It wasn't rated at all, and was a "movie of the week" type deal on TV, and that was a big reason why a lot of us remember it scaring the fuck out of us, because we watched it with our parents, with them thinking it was harmless. Granted, those memories are a bit skewed, in terms of how scary it actually was, but it didn't gain the reputation it did, because it was a G-rated family film. That movie was disturbing to a whole generation of kids. Way more than something like "Return to Oz", which is considered pretty fucked up for kids, even though it's a kid's movie. "IT" wasn't that.

I voted 2017. Watched the 1990 version wayyy too young and it scared the shit outta me but upon rewatching and then reading the book the 90 version is very tame
