Movies Movie Battle: IT (1990) vs IT (Chapter 1&2)

1990, minus the ending. Overall, it's way, way scarier. The modern one isn't scary at all. The only thing I really dislike about the 90's one is the ending, where they kick the spider to death. "That's it?!"

I thought "It: Part 1" was decent. Nothing amazing, and mostly leaning on nostalgia, but not bad.

Part 2, though? Oh' man. I just happened to come across it one night on TV. It's so hilariously bad. It's under the radar in terms of "so bad, it's good" movies. It's hysterical. All the supposed "scares" are handled with the care of a Pee-Wee Herman like mentality. It's so bad.

I don't remember much from the original, other than it scaring the piss out of me as a kid. I'm gonna keep it that way.

The good stuff in 1990 (Curry, the atmosphere, music) still holds up but there are some cringe early 90s moments in there. Still better than the remake though.

I think the 90s generic made for TV feel of it plus the carnival music type of score adds to the creepiness.

I have the original 1990 one on DVD. First saw it when I was youngster. I did vote for the newest ones though because I saw both in the cinema and thought they were great movies.

I need to watch the original again to really get a grasp on which I prefer.

The modern one does come across as trying too hard to the verge of parody, there is something really nasty about Curry's Pennywise even if the miniseries as a whole it maybe a bit low budget.
