Most technical fight in MMA history?

Couldn't you say Nog vs Fedor since Nog was better than Mirko?

Or did you pick Mirko vs Fedor because of the hype + the fact that it was a more competitive fight?
Go watch it for yourself my friend and come to your own conclusions. That's my opinion and it's pretty evident why it still is talked about today as one of the most technical hw fights of all time.

I mean, When was the last time you saw a fighter defend a very deadly head kick artist's deadliest weapon with a fast countering knee bending low kick?

When was the last time you saw a hw use the Pyramid defense that blocks low, mid and high kicks at the same time?

Someone who understands advanced techniques wouldn't even ask that question. It had nothing to do with hype, I was there, I lived it... Purchased the ppv and analyzed it for myself...i came out of it amazed and made my own conclusions.

I did watch it, I was just curious about your reasoning.

I do apologize if my question came across in a demeaning manner.

Except Shogun isn't a "high level muay thai" fighter lmao, and Lyoto didn't come close to winning 3 rds.

Shogun had decent Muay Thai for MMA standards (certainly LHW standards), but he'd get absolutely wrecked standing by any real MT specialist.

If you want to go down the karate vs MT route, Till vs WB was a higher level fight than Shogun vs Lyoto.

Shogun's 'decent muay thai for mma standards' made him won the grand prix and the UFC belt. That's pretty much high level for MMA.

Till vs WB had more high fives made than technique showed in a battle compared to Lyoto/Shogun 1.

No offense taken my friend, my answer was in a light tone and not snarky at all but thought text it's harder to convey intention.

All in all though I agree nog was a better fighter than cro cop and a better win even for Fedor but Fedor dominated nog while the fight with cro cop was a class, he was the first fighter to really figure out the first crude game plan on how to best cro cop whihh at the time was a great feat. Later on cro cop would get figured out more thoroughly, especially when he came unto the ufc and had to adapt to new rules and environment (octagon vs ring being a huge factor in his demise).

Fedor and his trainers really did their homework that fight.

Prime, hungry Fedor was an absolute treat to watch

From my vantage point, it does seem like Fedor's arrogance (due to his fighting and financial success) after the Mirko fight started his downward spiral.

I don't know the exact reason, arrogance, religion, complacency but year soon after the mirko fight I started to see a lack of game planning and general interest from Fedor.

Yep, his strength and conditioning really took a visible nosedive in his subsequent fights.

Fedor at his best was built like a polar bear, but he got increasingly flabby and soft as the years went on.

He also became much more of a headhunter; the guy that was once the smartest fighter and grappler in MMA completely abandoned his ground game.

The abandonment of the grappling I'm pretty sure was due to an undisclosed back injury to his lumbar region. Physically, that's the only explanation I can feasibly come up with... And it's not too far fetched being that Fedor grappled in Sambo and mma his entire career and that can definitely compress your discs. I know, cause just from throwing people in bjj in 2 years I suffered from compressed discs. Couldn't even get out of bed easily for two days once. Scared me shitless, had to rehab.

Even after I recovered fully I was scared to launch people.

On paper probably something like Souza vs Mousasi, Diaz vs Sakuraba or Penn vs Florian maybe

Israel vs Yoel was peak technical counter striking to the level where no one wanted to do any striking

On a serious note though:
* GSP vs Condit
* Mighty Mouse vs John Dodson - one of the fastest fights I've seen

It's hard to decide though, many of the most technically perfect fights might just contain some perfect takedown defense, followed by a perfectly executed guillotine - but that's not really all that flashy.
