Most overrated acting performance of all time

Who you got and why?

I got Heath Ledgers joker due to him kicking the bucket

Absurd. The performance would be as iconic as it is today, if he had lived and made a bunch of forgettable romantic comedies afterwards. That performance is legit.

Anyways, Forrest Gump? I love the movie, and think it works no matter who played Gump. That said, maybe the performance was a bit on the nose. I know it's a meme n' shit, to make fun of actors who went "full retard", but I'd argue that Hanks did indeed go "full retard", but the screenplay saved him.

Nicole Kidman in The Hours (yay she wore an ugly nose).
Everything in Chicago.
Everyone in the 1960s True Grit who wasn't Robert Duvall.
Half the cast in Pulp Fiction.

Samuel Jackson in Coming to America. @HI SCOTT NEWMAN

jim carrey is an over actor, but its for comedy purposes so i cant give him shit

Every nominated picture with Jennifer Lawrence or Bradley Cooper.

Nailed it with Ledger. With that silly, contrived voice he used, it sounds like he belonged in a big bang theory role instead of the joker. Really though, that entire movie is overrated, and as the years go by more and more people are realizing it. Time has its way of sorting these things out.

Forest Whittaker in everything except ghost dog because his performance isn't even rated in that...

The thread isn't about overactors. It's about overrated performances. Read the thread title.

I'll agree on Forrest Gump as I thought the acting was ridiculous, but the joker performance is constantly rated up with Darth Vader as an all time great villain portrayal which is ridiculous imo.
I'd go so far as to say Bane was a superior villain and movie.

Denzel Training Day.

Wait!!! Lemme land.

Not saying he wasn't good, Denzel is the man. But folks acted like that was his best performance ever (probably because he got the Oscar) I think Malcolm X was his better performance he was performing like he channeled Malcolm or something (some say he did).

A lot of his acting afterwards was a caricature of Alonzo.

<{monica}>

Only just saw that last year, fucking great movie.

I recall noone making a fuss about it until after his death as well. I'd go so far as to say Bane was a superior villain and movie.
Didn't the movie premier after his death?

Um, how does that affect a performance? If you simply said you didn't enjoy the way he portrayed the Joker it would be a logical opinion but your complaint is he died? It even happened while he was filming another movie ffs.
Only on Sherdog.
He means he thinks the only reason people praised his performance so much was because he'd recently died.

Tom Hanks in almost all of his roles, although I say that as someone that likes him as a human and an actor.

Hannibal Lecter is overrated.

Jodie Foster is overrated.

Meryl Streep is the most overrated thespian in history.

Ya mean Anthony Hopkins? Because Hannibal Lecter has been played by several actors.
