What's the most misused term, in your opinion, in popular political discourse? To some degree as it's used in the media, or by politicians pushing an agenda, but more when people are using them in political discussion. This forum is definitely a culprit here, but far from the worst one I have come across.

Fascism gets my vote but it's a close race. I'm reading a CBC article on some scholar calling the whole Mississippi boycott thing undemocratic and in the comments both sides are referring to what they don't like as "fascist." Artists and companies want to boycott the state for a law they want to pass? "That's FASCISM! Don't people believe in freedom of religion any more?" The elected government wants to pass a law which will affect LGBT people among others? "That's FASCISM! Don't people believe in freedom to marry who you want any more?"

I hear this term applied to pretty much anything that is even vaguely authoritarian, or even if it looks authoritarian whether it has anything to do with the government or not. Obama uses an executive order? Fascist. Trump kicks someone out of a rally? Fascist. Someone gets fired for slamming a bottle of vodka while fondling a minor and posting pictures of Facebook? Fascist. A cake shop refuses to make a cake with Jared from Subway eating a rainbow colored swastika in a suggestive manner? Fascist. ID at a liquor store? Fascist. You get the idea. The end result is that anything that infringes on what I think should or should not happen is fascist, and tossed around by a bunch of people who never had the slightest clue what the term meant.

What's your misused term of choice?

Christian..

So many claiming to be Christian or espousing Christian values have never obviously read the Gospels...

racist - 90% of the times i hear it is used to mean omg you disagreed with someone from another country.
terrorism - what happens now is Syria for ex being described as terrorism, jesus christ.

Homophobic

Hate

Yep...... it's "terrorism" and it's not even close.

I remember starting a "let's define terrorism" thread. What a joke. Defining it, the war on it, all an Orwellian farce.

i eagerly await the moment when micro-terrorism will appear.

-racist
-solidarity
-privelege

These are pretty much meaningless because they are:
-used wrongly
-overused
-used to be racist against white people

So many to choose from, but I'd probably go with racism and homophobia. They're both equally misused.

Any of the progressive / SJW buzzwords that are brandished as ways to shut down discussion.

I'm sure the right has similar "shut down" words, i am ignorant of them though.

You know what's scary about the potential term "micro-terrorism"? If it ever becomes an actual thing, acts of micro-terrorism might become justification, in the mind of people, for actual response. If micro-aggression is any indicator, the response to micro-terrorism will be wildly, wildly disproportionate...

SJW seems to be the most popular one these days.

There you go.

Nazi is way overused and is really disrespectful to those who died at the hands of the Nazi's.

oh, i have no doubt.
i don't believe this micro-terrorism is a thing as of yet (maybe sherdog created a new term lol) but i wouldn't bet it couldn't become one. to give you an example - after brussels, a lot of young muslims went on streets and shouted pro-terrorist slogans. imagine a young guy coming up to you and saying "BOOM, kuffar", just to scare you. might it become justifiable to shoot him?
